Comparing facial features of the '38s with '37s, newcomers on a whole are somewhat simplified in appearance. Hood lourves are less ornate, radiator grilles more vertical, ver-tical, giving longer, more impressive impres-sive hoods. Headlamps tend to blend into fenders. Instrument boards, though varied, var-ied, show a trend to center speedometer speed-ometer '.before driver,, to recess control knobs. Nine makes have the gearshift lever mounted on the steering column or instrument board as standard or optional equipment. Batteries move under the hood. Buick, Chevrolet Buick this, year features adoption adop-tion of coil springs in rear, new body mountings, increased piston power, automatic transmission on Series 40. Front coil springs adopt-ted adopt-ted in 1934 proved so popular, the rear ones are expected to duplicate this success; their prime function of course is to act as springs. The new clutch differs from the convention in that a single piece of high-grade spring steel takes the place of the customary group of clutch springs and release levers. Chevrolets may be seen at Wasatch Chevrolet. Chrysler, Desoto Chryslers feature longer wheel-base, wheel-base, larger engines, flowing body lines, in Royal Six, Imperial and Custom Imperial JEights. Wheel-base Wheel-base of the Royal is increased from 116 to 119 inches; Imperial, 121 to 125, and Custom Imperial, 140 to 144 inches. The Royal now develops de-velops 95 instead of 93 horsepower, and the Imperial, 110, at 3,400 r. p. m. as against at 3,600 r. p. m. previously. Push-button dash starter star-ter is now featured. Chryslers are on display at Jolley Motor. Dodge, Ford Dodge is more impressive, larger-looking ty various changes in frontal design. The hood has been lengthened almost four inches. Headlamps are gracefully sunk into the fenders. Greater windshield wind-shield vision is obtained. The front seat rises as it comes forward. for-ward. Engine mountings are improved. im-proved. Clutches are refined. Brakes increased. Naylor Auto features the new models. Ford features entirely new appearance ap-pearance In its 85-horsepower De Lux V-8, is bigger and more massive mas-sive looking. The Standard V-8, in 85 and 60-horsepower, is newly styled with longer lines. De Lux models have more room in closed sedans, more comfort, more luggage lug-gage space. Longer hood and flowing flow-ing lines add to the standard. Both are on 112-inch chassis. Models will be on display shortly at Mel-luride Mel-luride Motor. Hudson, Terruplane Hudson and Hudson Terraplane, in a year when automatic gear shifting is a brand new feature on other cars, feature Hudson's Selective Automatic Shift Transmission, Trans-mission, improved, for the fourth year. New styles are ultra modern, mod-ern, models larger and roomier. Grilles are redesigned. Hudson sixes and eights develop 101 to 122 horsepower; Terraplane, 96 and 101. Schofield Auto features these models. Lincoln Zephyr Lincoln Zephyr V-12 features "tear drop" front end styling of even more pronounced streamlining, streamlin-ing, with longer hood, bigger car, the wheelbase b3ing 125 inches. Two convertible body types are introduced sedan and coupe. The engine is refined for smoother, quieter performance by use of new valve lifters with oil cushion. Models will be on display soon with Telluride Motor. Nash - Laf ayet te Nash and Nash-Lafayette pronouncements pro-nouncements feature conditioned air system for winter driving, engine en-gine advances, sound-proofing, better riding with "sealeg" shock absorbers, bigger cars. First to offer air conditioning, Nash promises prom-ises ''you can drive in your shirt sleeves when it's winter." Automatic Auto-matic gear-shifting is featured. Ten per cent greater power is proclaimed. pro-claimed. Lafayette is now 95 horsepower, 117 inch wheelbase. Nash six and eight are 105 115 1 horsepower, 121 and 125 inch wheelbase. Burt's Service displays moaeis. Olds-Packard Oldsmoblle feature style-leader models in six and eight, both with automatic safety transmission. Easier driving, lessened fuel cost is promised.. Safety dash instrument instru-ment paneling design is evolutionary, evolution-ary, grouping all gauges conveniently con-veniently for driving. Grilles are deepened, headlamps lowered into sweeping fenders. Wasatch Chevrolet Chev-rolet is agent for these cars. Packard features six, eight (formerly (for-merly the 120), super 8 and 12. Carrying out traditionally the Packard style theme, numerous advances are subtly blended in the '38 creations. Lines are more gracefully tapered, with longer wheelbase. The eight features thermostatically - controlled front grille. Out of 15 contestants, contest-ants, seven went over individual quotas of $350, more than 100 per cent and are entitled to extra prizes. Company quota for the contest, lasting from September 1 to October 1, was set by Goodrich Tire company at $5,000. Local contesants doubled this $10,109.86.
