Cougar Stars Slated For National AA U Meet Schof ield and Cannon Certain Entries in Track Meet At Nebraska It looks like a busy summer ror Dale Schofield and Hugh Cannon, members of Brigham Young university's uni-versity's championship track team. Elbert Campbell, George Gourley and John Verney, will also likely appear in the national A. A. U. meet this summer, Coach Romney announced. Coach Romney declared that . Schofield, Cannon, and Campbell together with Jack Thornley and Knewell Rushf orth of the University Univer-sity of Utah, would participate in the national A. A. U. meet to be held at Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 3 and 4. It is possible that Gourley and Verney will also enter en-ter the meet. Expert Invite The Cougar mentor is expecting an invitation for Schofield and Cannon to participate in the National Collegiate meet to be held at Berkeley on June 22 and 23. Both athletes have established est-ablished records this year which place them among the leading tracksters of the nation. Should the Cougar duo enter the national collegiate meet, they will also participate in the far western A. A. V. meet to be held at San Diego on June 25-26 in connection with the fair exposition. exposi-tion. Both Cannon and Schofield made a creditable showing in last year's national A. A. U. meet, Cannon placing third in the junior discus event and fifth in the senior event. Schofield took second sec-ond in the senior division of the high hurdles, beating out Lam-bertus Lam-bertus of Nebraska, record holder. hold-er. Schofield was leading the pack in the junior division but nicked the last hurdle and failed to place. He established new records rec-ords in the two hurdle events at the recent intermnuntain A. A. U. meet and Cannon bettered his discus dis-cus mark by more than two feet. Try Big Weight If Verney and Gourley are taken tak-en to the meet, Verney will enter the 56-pound weight throwing event. At the B. Y. U. Invitation meet Verney beat George Theo-dratus Theo-dratus of Washington State, who placed second in the junior division divi-sion last year in that event. Ver-ney's Ver-ney's best mark is not far behind the winning mark of the senior division la.st year. Gourley, who has vaulted 13 feet 4 inches this year, should place in his special-! special-! ty, and may even be in the money I in the high jump. "Snatch" Rush-! Rush-! forth, who tied Walter Marty, i world champion high jumper, at ; the B. Y. U. relays, should place ! in both the senior and junior i events. ! Elbert Campbell and Jack Thornley are expected to carry their fued to the Nebraska plains. Campbell has had a habit of making mak-ing new conference records this spring only to have the Ute spear thrower beat him by a few feet before' the event closed. Campbell, however, won the recent A. A. U. event, but his best throw was more than 15 feet behind his mark in the conference meet. Coach Romney declared that all of the B. Y. U. athletes would enter both the junior and .senior events in the national A.A.U. PLAY VISITORS Leven's softball team of thr Provo city Recreation league will play the Yale Athletic club of Salt Lake City this afternoon at 2:30 on the Farrer school grounds.
