By; Florence - La Ganke Dancing - Party Attractive Function a French Bouquet Quilt "I know what that flower is in the center there. It's a lavender Water lily." "Right you are. I can see it developed in yellows or lavenders. lav-enders. But I chose lavender because be-cause we used a yellow for the spotted crane's bill flowers which are the five petalled ones on either eith-er side of the waterlily. Then, too, I made the trillium at the top in pink so I had ray necessary variety var-iety in color with the blue and pink forget-me-nols and the green leaves." "Honestly, Nancy, it seems to me that each block is prettier than the lastj I never saw such a beautiful array of flowers and colors. When I lay the finished blocks on the bed and see those soft colors appliqued on the soft ivory of the background I almost have to-h-usr myself, I like--the-' quilt so well." , Nancy was pleased, of course, that her club members liked the f rench bouquet quilt so well. As she had said earlier, "Well, I always al-ways think that the last quilt I plan is the prettiest, but truly I don't see how any one could be prettier than this." The club members went to work on the block. Fiirst, they clipped the picture and directions from the paper. Then they made the double tracing trac-ing which gave them the finished bouquet. This design shows just half of it. The small- drawing in the upper corner shows what the finished block looks like. After they had the tracing made they marked it, ever so lightly onto the 15Mt- inch square of cloth. They put the point marked "Av at the exact center of the square. They then took the complete paper tracing and made patterns of each petal and leaf. This was done by tracing each one, dotted lines and completed lines, onto lieht weieht cardboard. Each one was separate and apart from its neighbor. After these were cut from the cardboard ' they were used as cutting patterns for the cloth. An eighth inch allowance was made on all 'sides. This allowance was turned under, un-der, basted Closely and pressed. Block No. 9 Then the pieces were pinne and basted in place on the square. They fitted over the tracing made earlier. Thev went on in the order in which they ar numbered here. Number 1, 2, U i-epresent stems coming up from lower part of the bouquet. The pattern for The Fidelas social unit of the B. Yi U. held a smart social affair in the form of an invitational dancing party, Saturday evening at the First ward recreational hall. ' Seventy-five couples attended the delightful party, the theme of which centered around a Christmas Christ-mas idea. Refreshments were serv- ed. In choosing colors Nancy suggested sug-gested print lavender for 14, plain lavender for all the outer petals represented by number 15. The center 15 was pale yellow. The small crescent piece, unnumbered was cut from pale green. Number 10 was yellow print. Number 12 was a trillium in pink print with a rose center and light green outer petal at 11. Numbers 7 and' 9 were forget-me-nots and number 8 was a pink forget-me-not. The leaves 4, 5, (J are in green. The leaf marked 4 was put on after the stem 3, then the leaf 5, leaf 6. Forget-me-nots went on next in order, 7, 8, 9. The crane's bill, number 10, went on next, the center of this flower and the stamens were worked in soft, fast color henna, embroidery cotton. The centers of the forget-me-t nots were worked in yellow cot- ton, using the satin stitch. After all the appliqueing was done, and an invisible stitch was used for this, the block was pressed and laid away with the other eight. Club' Calendar i O. E. S.
