' - - v ' i V J- " t t I literary f ' .-; li in i i tr - -v- A "SOUTH AMERICAN FIESTA" proved a delightful theme for the annual banquet of the Ladies' Literary club and their husbands,, held' at Keeleys Friday evening. Tne charming affair was in the form of a dinner-dance. A patio scene was arranged with gay-colored awnings, quaint -lamps, Mexican statuary, Navajo rugs, Spanish .shawls, serapes, birds, wicker baskets and vases, and beautiful beauti-ful plants and red roses. The small serving tables stood under the awnings and were centered with red roses. Clever hand-made Spanish favors, bearing a toreador and Spanish girl, were given, and the nut cups corresponded. A tasty Spanish dinner was served. The women were presented with red roses, which they wore in their hair, and the men were obliged to don black moustaches and sideburns and red sashes. Mrs. Sterling Ercanbrack, president, gave the address of welcome, and introduced the new members, Mrs. William Christensen, Jr., and Miss Afar- guerite Jppperson, and the guests, Mrs. Ralph Booth of Salt Lake City, a. former club member, and Peter M. Jensen. Mrs. P. L. Larson Lar-son 'Vfras the toastmistreas, and each. member gave, a toast to the South American country which she has reviewed at the ciub sessions during, the year. The Maori trio, consisting of Tom Clark, Joe Hapi and Wi Pere Amaru, entertained with several songs and guitar numbers; Miss Willa Sowards furnished fur-nished a. tango dance," with Miss Wilma Hotter at the piano, and Dr. M. W. Merrill gave a "Travelogue." "Trave-logue." A delightful feature of tbe evening, eve-ning, and one which created a great amount of merriment, was the bull fight, which concluded the program. Arnold Rawlings was the brave toreador, J. A. Owens arid Dwight Packard were the matadors, and Thomas Sumner and Richard Bandley enacted the role of the infuriated bull. . Music for dancing was furnished by the Rhythm Boys. Club members and their husbands hus-bands in attendance at the smart focial event were: Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Ercanbrack, Bishop and Mrs." Herald R. Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Parley L. The following delightful program was furnished under the direction of Chris Froisland: Two. selections, selec-tions, mixed quartet, the Misses Betty and Olga Madsen, Quathel Allred and LeOrande Nelson, accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Alene C. Simmons; Sim-mons; vocal solo, Miss Clara Fot-land, Fot-land, accompanied by Miss Myrtle Potland; cornet solo, Ralph Christiansen; Chris-tiansen; two numbers, male quartet, quar-tet, Woodrow Sggertsen, LeGrande Nelson, Quathel Allred and Roger Farrer, accompanied by Mrs. Simmons; Sim-mons; comic reading, Mrs. Effie Madsen; duet, C. Froisland and Viggo Christfansen. Several games were played, under un-der the direction f Mrs. Effie Madsen. A delicious luncheon was served to 62. Worsley Friday afternoon, aft-ernoon, the session proving unusually un-usually interesting. Mrs. Maud B. Jacob presented the program of the day, "A Trip Down Memory Lane with Much Loved Books." J. W. Thornton sang three beautiful vocal solos, "Cashmere "Cash-mere Love Long," "My Curly Headed Head-ed Baby" and "Goodbye Little Girl Goodbye." E. Farrer, also of this city, took place Tuesday evening at the Farrer residence. Mr. Fajrrer, who is a member of the Bonneville ward bishopric, performed per-formed the ceremony, in the presence pres-ence of the. immediate family members mem-bers at the young couple.
