Robinson and Hatchet Man" Starting 4- - - , i f I " ' - - XA f - X Fresh from his "Five Star Final" triumph, Edward G. Fubinson comes to the Crest theater today in the title role of "The Hatchet Man," a First National picture. Robinson rises to extreme heights of emotional acting as Mr. Wour, Chinese American, Americanized in ideas but bound by ancient Chinese laws. His transitions from Americanized American-ized Chinese to Chinese long killrr are little short of amazing. He brings to his role the deep understanding under-standing and intelligence that have established him as the leading delineator de-lineator of character on the screen. Loretta Young as a somewhat flirtatious Chinese girl lends zest to the production and will undoubtedly win many followers. Her make-up is beautiful and marvelous enough to earn for her the tilte of "Oiil Lon Chaney." "The Hatchet Man" theme is intensely in-tensely dramatic. It is a story of triangular love, of the mature man who takes a beautiful young biidc only to lose her to a youth her own age. Th'1 story ig focused from the Chinese angle. It is based on the inflexible in-flexible vows of a tong hatch man turn between lovo and hereditary codes. The code which bindr- rt ni involves death and destructTt to tone enemies, a silent strikintr which leaves terror and madness in j its wake.
