Too Much Charity In the past tw years, wealthy Americans have given away more than five billion dollars to charity and that is one of the, worst pieces-of news any paper has printed for a long,, long time. - ' ; - What's the matter with a country that NEEDS that huge amount of charity every year? How much definite, irreparable harm is done by those ;gjft billions in breaking down character? - Why, instead of piling up swollen fortunes and then trying try-ing to salve consciences by dribbling back some of the profits, prof-its, don't our wealthiest men pay better twages, employ more workers do something constructive to build up their country. Americans are not panhandlers by, choice; a good many of them are forced to be, by necessity. The average American wants a chance, not -charity. And he has a right to that chance. i - Charity is a curse; always was; always will be. We are against it in principle. What we are FOR is a reasonable system that would make charity unnecessary ; give to each American the chance to be a working, useful member of society, standing on his own feet.
