Debs received 919,799 votes. Debs was the party's first candidate can-didate in the field, running in 1900 for the first time. The Communist party appeared on the ballots of but the 1924 and 1928 election. William Z. Foster in 1924 polled 33,261 votes and in 1928, 48,770 votes- The bulk of these came from the industrial and farm centers.
