DuBgjDn selhiD irdle fl littles Twenty-seven clubs and 147 contestants con-testants competed in the Uintah Basin High School Rodeo, Saturday and Monday in Vernal at the Uintah County Coun-ty Fairgrounds and nabbing top all around cowgirls honors was the Uintah Uin-tah Basin's Marcie McNeill. Hank Nielsen of Emery snared the all around cowboy title. Karen Kent, Bear River, pocketed first place in the breakaway roping event in a time of 4.43 and Ann Petersen, Uintah Basin, placed second at 4.47. The Uintah Basin's Carrie Crozier picked up third place honors at 6.84 and Marcie McNeill, Uintah Basin, placed fourth at 10.70. Hank Nielsen of Emery snared first place in calf roping at 12.35 and Bruce Curtis of Sevier pocketed second place at 14.16. Shane Frost of Uintah Basin Rodeo Club picked up third place at 15.02 and the Uintah Basin's Charles Crozier nabbed fourth place at 15.77. The Spikers' Lori Child snared first place in the pole bending event at 20.98 and Rcnee Buckley, South Rich, cap tured second place at 21.96. Penny Porritt, Bear River, collected third place at 22.09 and Carolee Rex, South Rich, placed fourth at 22.35. First place in the steer wrestling event was won by Matthew Mills of Sevier at 4.47 and Wade Ryan, Wasatch, nabbed second at 5.22. Shane Frost, Uintah Basin, placed third at 5.30 and Brock Andrus, Dixie, finished finish-ed in fourth place at 6.15. McNeill pocketed first place in goat tying and girls' cow cutting. Rock Ricks, Bridgerland, finished in first place in the bull riding contest at 63 and Greg Richens, North Utah County, placed second at 62. Deloy Adams, South Utah County, pocketed third place at 60 and Mike Kogianes of South Utah County finished in fourth place at 59. First place in boys' cow cutting was garnered by the Uintah Basin's Kary McNeill with a total of 74. Lance Kelson, Wasatch, placed second at 65 and Marc McAffee, Wasatch, placed third at 64. Lori Childs of the Spikers nabbed first place in the barrel race at 18.131 and McNeill finished in second place at 18.133. Jenny Flinder, Spikers, placed third at 18.393 and Rex netted fourth place at 18.472. Brad Hodson and Hank Neilsen captured cap-tured first place in the team roping event at 9.35 and Wade Ryan and Ricky Evans placed second at 13.31. Tenois imeotfctoes sBed in Vernal Men's and women's singles matches in the Vernal Express Vernal Recreational Recrea-tional Open Tennis Tournament will begin Friday for most contestants. Some tennis players played their matches mat-ches Thursday. All first round matches mat-ches must be completed Monday, Sept. 12 by 9 p.m. Singles competition in the tournament will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 17 and doubles competition will take place from Sept. 16 thru Sept. 24. Fifty-four tennis players will take part in the singles event. Contestants must contact their opponents and set up a time for a match. Rod Conklin will have a bye in the first round of the men's open singles division and will play the winner of the Adam Massey-Darroll Preece match in the second round. Steve Henderson will take on Kelly Smallwood and John Hullinger will battle Ron Enloe in first round matches. Greg Hodges and Burke Eldredge will clash and Greg Richens and Gary Bradford will battle bat-tle in first round encounters. Conrad Parrish will take on Gerald Golding and Tom J. Williams will face Day DeLaHunt in first round matches. Tom Conklin will take on Bert Peterson Peter-son and George Rosenthal will face Tom W. Williams in first round encounters. en-counters. Huston is the top seed in the women's division and Bigelow is number two. The top five seeds in the men's open division are: Rod Conklin, first; Paul Burgess, second; Tom Conklin, third; Day DeLaHunt, fourth and Greg Hodges, fifth. Each contestant must bring a new can of balls and the winner win-ner will receive these balls. Prizes will be sponsored by Basin Sports and Electric, T-Shirt by Shak, Vernal Express and Business and Professional Pro-fessional Women's Clubs of Vernal.
