They -denied that there was any connection between the report ana the directive. direc-tive. . - ..It was believed, however, the order is designed to prevent any oyer the stand of many administration adminis-tration officials in the recent unification uni-fication row. An official navy spokesman said that the directive means that navy-men are to "render nrooer hand salutes to all secretaries of the military establishment." Under military regulations, Mr. Truman rates a salute because of hit position at commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Others entitled to a salute include defense de-fense secretary Louis Johnson and the secretaries of army, navy, and air force. Menzies, liberal party leader who led the anti-socialist opposi tion to a victory which swept the labor party out of power in Aus tralia, was busy forming a coan tion cabinet of his liberals and the country party. . His views, many of which were made known in speeches during the election campaign, were- summarized sum-marized by his press secretary. Robert Willoughby. Practical Approach Menzies will tackle the deso- clalization job "not as a problem in tneory Dut as one or common ense and hard practical fact. For reasons of political strategy he has declined to reveal the order in which his government will tackle the Job of unwinding socialism. But he has said he will ask parliament for a law requiring that the people be per mitted to voice their opinion of every proposal on nationalization. In the election the people gave Menzies a definite mandate against nationalization after a campaign based on private enter prise vs. socialism. The liberal and country parties won 74 seats to labor's 46, with one seat still undecided in the house of representatives. While the Menzies group lacks a majority in the senate, which has restricted rights, the premier elect does not expect the labor majority there to block legislation passed by the house of representatives. If it does, Menzies will dissolve the parliament and call for new elections, so confident is he that he could win again, maybe by an even greater margin. One of Menzies' first moves will be to wipe the nationalization of Australia's banks off the record books. The old house voted na tionalization, but the law was declared de-clared invalid by the privy council. coun-cil. But under the constitution the law is not dead until it has been repealed by house vote. R A - - .: U.
