Y. high 27. Iehl ?9, Pleaaiit Grove 22. Ainerhan Fork 48, Lincoln 24. BY J. R. PAULSON Provo high school's Bulldogs Joined the ranks of the unbeaten teams in the Alpine division Fri day night when they battled to a thrilling 27-27 tic at the end of the regular period with the "Y" High Wildcats, then went on to win in the extra period 30-27. It was a hard-fought game packed with excitement from start to finish and only the exceptional ex-ceptional scoring ability of Don Overly, Bulldog guard, gave the Provo team the advantage at each quarter until the end. 'Overly bagged 16 points for high honors, making two buckets of the phenomenal phe-nomenal variety. Exciting Finish It was the final quarter where mu.iL of the drama was packed, .i'iovo was leading 20-19 as the green -shirted and blue-ahirted athletes ath-letes came out for the final period. With the quarter but a minute old. Heed Oldroyd filpped in a ringer that put the Wildcats ahead for the tiit time since jEddie Smart counted a foul toes at the opening open-ing of the game. ' Ted Jenkins snapped off the one-point lead with a free throw Hhat knotted the score 21-21 then Cleon Mentove, Bulldog center, took a fast pass from Lwis and dashed in for a set-up that put Provo two points ahead. The game was apparently sewed up when Menlove scored a beauty from the foul line. Wildcats Tie But in less time than it takes to tell it, Gordon SnoW, Wildcat center, scored from close in and Bill Pardoe swished tnrougn another an-other to tie the score again. Overly Over-ly dribbled half the length of the floor to flip one in from the side and put Provo ahead once more with seconds to play. While the fans stood on their feet and howl-eu howl-eu as one man, Eddie Smart, diminutive di-minutive "Y" forward, dished one i'mui his shoestrings that arch- vti way high nearly to Zte celling V-then rocketed down to score the flying ringer. Provo went ahead in the extra penOU WI1CII OIIUW iuuku under the basket and the rangy Bulldog center converted. Overly putting the game on ice with a flip from the side. The Wildcats lost otrt on then-inability then-inability to convert shots as well JL3 all j uiuci iaw wi cmwww& Provo defense did not allow any easy flips and the difficult angles of shooting may partly account for the many misses. Overly and Menlove were the big cogs in the Provo attack, an attack, by the way, which appeared to bog down at some critical . points. The Wildcats depended upon the phenomenal rustling ability of Eddie Smart and a dependable guard line 4n oiaroya ana raraae. Grant Holt was off in shooting. Snow watched the speedy Menlove Men-love closely for the early part of the game especially, and scored 3 goals. The score. PROVO HIGH G. T. r. P.
