Express Publisher Members of the Vernal First Baptist Church sponsored a faith promoting pro-moting family and community event called Son-Shine in the park last week in Vernal. The event was scheduled for July 30 - August 1 and featured arts and crafts to Bible study classes, music, prizes and motivational Christian speakers. Special guests included 39 members of the Southern Baptist Convention Conven-tion in Apache and Hinton Oklahoma who volunteered their time in helping to run the event. The "Backyard Bible Club" classes were taught by teachers from Oklahoma and they were excited to teach about Christ - the Son, while in the park. There were 75 who were registered for the Backyard Bible Club sessions ses-sions of all ages. Members of the Disaster Relief Team in Utah came out and helped put on the dinner on Thursday night where close to 300 people were served. These people are known throughout the country as the yellow shirts. These volunteers, 11 of which have been trained in Vernal, travel throughout the country to give aid and relief in disaster situations. The community was invited to share in the event by hosting booths that were also set up around the park. Booths included paint ball target practice, members of the Christian Motorcycle Association, bean bag toss, ring toss, and many other games which prizes were awarded. Music was provided by those traveling from Oklahoma as well as the Assembly of God church and Vernal First Baptist Church. G-Force was a featured program on Friday night.
