"I want a better way of living," liv-ing," explained Rascon, who just opened up Taco Gordo in Vernal. While he doesn't believe the enterprise en-terprise is something he will ever get rich over, he said it gives him an opportunity to improve his lifestyle for him and his family. Rascon said that they were in Naples first, but felt vacant property behind Carefree Wireless Wire-less at 500 East and 50 South in Vernal was a better location. Higher sales show he was right; the place stays busy most of the day. "When I first got to Vernal I looked for a good Mexican place to eat and did not find what I was looking for," explained Rascon. "There are Mexican-American restaurants in town, but they don't have the same flavor as I was looking for." Rascon said there are a lot of people from Mexico now living in the area who are looking for the kind of flavor found in his offerings and it is paying off for him and his wife. "I left a corporate position and found my niche," explained Jan Robinette, owner of Main Street Coffee and Espresso. Coffee shops like hers have been in Vernal for more than a year. Robinette said she needed to find something she enjoyed doing in Vernal to move here with her family. Opening a coffee shop and Internet cafe was something she has always wanted to do and this puts her one step closer to that goal. Robinette was serious about opening a coffee shop and leaving corporate America behind. "What I really wanted and still want to do is open up a full fledged Internet cafe, but I will always keep the small kiosk," explained Robinette. "This is what I plan to do for the rest of my career. I have found my niche." Robinette stated that it was hard in finding a location on Vernal's Main Street, but will celebrate a year in business on June 13 with a long term lease in effect. The facility cost about $80,000 up front, but she has continued to upgrade and build on through the first year. Her menu has also changed as she has now added breakfast croissants that are baked fresh weekly and Cinnamon Cinna-mon rolls backed fresh daily. "I am surprised that we grew as much as we did in our first year," said Robinette. "I'm still ' looking for a good place to put ( an' Internet cafe that will serve a full lunch also. That is still my goal." "We are the number one relay team in Utah. We raise more than the Wasatch Front and we do brag about this," said Blunt. "I think this shows that our community is a little more giving than Salt Lake. That we are a little more family based." Blunt's committee did more this year to contact as many cancer survivors as possible. Currently there are more than 2,000 cancer survivors living in the Basin and more than 100 of them have announced that they will be at the event. "This is good and bad," said Blunt. What this means for the future fu-ture of natural gas extraction in the West Tavaputs field is uncer to get cancer to begin with, but they add such a great feeling to the event to have them come and participate." She described the program that has something for everyone every-one in the community to come and enjoy. During the opening ceremony Dr.' Gary White will talk about colon cancer, and his efforts to eradicate it from the Basin. Blunt described the atmosphere atmo-sphere that the luminary bags give the event as they line the track in memory of someone who has battled cancer. The candles in the bags will be lit at dusk with a ceremony featuring a survivor speaker. -- - - "And then we have a musical musi-cal presentation and readihg'of names," said Blunt. "It's a nice and very moving ceremony. A part of the program you want to be at." This year's theme is sports and teams are asked to to deco- rate around and dress up using the theme. "There is going to be a lot of entertainment for kids and adults. It's something for entire family all night long," concluded Blunt. "This is a disease with no age discrimination. At 10:45 they'll be just over half way up the eastern sky as they fade into Earth's shadow. Friday's pass is another good one for the north with the docked duo coming into view low in the northwest at 9:51 p.m., passing high in the northeast at 9:54' and fading from view low in the southeast at 9:56. The National Park Service, according to Risser concurs with the EPA, but notes that potential visibility impacts "will occur only four days a year," which adds to the challenge they face from a variety of other pollution sources. Relay for Life began in Ta-coma, Ta-coma, Wa., with the vision of Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon who hoped to increase the revenue rev-enue of his local American Cancer Society office. In May 1985, Klatt spent 24 hours circling the track at the University of Puget Sount, running more than 83 miles. He and friends raised $27,000 the first year and $33,000 the second.
