Show C12 Wednesday, December 5, 2007 Vernal Express Drill team all-state team chosen Recreation Disfnot With the beginning of the 2007-08 high school drill team competition season, the All-State Teams for 1A, 2A and 3A were chosen by audition format on Nov. 7 at Juab High. In the 3A classification, 48 girls auditioned and a team of 20 was chosen to represent drill teams throughout the state. Representing the Uintah High Drill Team was Stephanie Sabin, Kadee Pitt, and Janelle Batty. Members from the UVSC dance team taught the dance routine and also selected the 3A dancers. Kadee Pitt and Janelle Batty were both chosen for the team of 20. Coach Robin McClellan was happy with all three of the Uintah girls. " I think our three dancers represented rep-resented us well. I am so proud of all of them and congratulate Kadee and Janelleon makingthe team," said McClellan The 3A All-State Drill Team will be honored at the UHSAA State Drill Team Competition on Feb. 2, 2008 at UVSC. Additionally, Addition-ally, they will perform at the Miss Drill Team Competition on Feb. 9, 2008 at the Covey Arts Center in Provo. They may appear on "All Things Utah," time TBA. no 5. Photo taken by Sheri Woodward. Squirt hockey came home victorious vic-torious with a two-game win. The little Raptor team played Greater Salt Lake for both games. In the first game the Raptors held them at bay for most of the game with a 3-0 lead. In the third period Greater Salt Lake made two goals and the Raptors answered back with another goal ending the game at 4-2. Goals were scored by Dylan Weldon, Andres Bowden, Tyler Young and Cameron Pre-ebee Pre-ebee with an assist by Jackson Woodward. In the second game both teams played hard, while the score board remained void of points. It wasn't until the last three minutes min-utes of the game that the Raptors where able to score, winning the game 2-0. Points were made by Weldon and Preebee. The team was forced to work together to overcome evenly match opponents. oppo-nents. Jace Urban made more than 20 saves in the last game as goalie. Branden Searle worked hard at defense to make it hard for Greater Salt Lake to complete shots on goal. After working at the Dinaland Golf Course for more than 22 years Kent McCurdy is heading into retirement. McCurdy left some big shoes to fill. The Uintah Recreation District conducted a nationwide search for the next head golf professional to serve Dinaland. Di-naland. Accordingto the director of the Recreation District, there was an overwhelming response to the position with resumes from across the country. The district created an interview in-terview committee with staff and board members who golf to help sort through the stack of applicants. Fran Harding, board chair for the district, said it was a difficult decision since there were such high quality applicants. appli-cants. After checking references, the consensus of the committee members was to offer the position to Todd Meyer from Riverton. Meyer comes to Dinaland with more than 13 years experience expe-rience working with Salt Lake County and employed as a head professional for 12 years. He was employed at Mountain View Golf Course in West Jordan, as well as Mick Riley Golf Course in Murray. Mur-ray. He was recently voted by his peers as the Golf Professional of the year for the State of Utah. Meyer graduated with a degree in business administration from Southern Utah State University where he played on the university golf team. Meyer has a proven track record for increasing men's and woman's league participation and instrumental in building award winning junior golf programs. pro-grams. He was voted the Junior Golf Leader for the State of Utah three times. He is a Class A member of the Professional Golfers Association of America and has completed countless hours of continuing education including PGA Business School I and II. Meyer's credentials are matched by his playing ability. He' has successfully competed on several tours and won many awards. He has also been coaching coach-ing the Riverton High School golf team since 1999. While checking references, Tony Guest, a member mem-ber of the Salt Lake County golf advisory board, stated Meyer was the best professional in the county system and they were sorry to lose him. Meyer will be relocating from Riverton and will begin working immediately on a part-time basis and will begin full-time at the first of the year. "I appreciate the opportunity to work in the Vernal area and I am excited to build the game of golf in the community," Meyer stated.
