American Bass Anglers compete at Starvation By Cacy La fagraga Express Writer The American Bass Anglers fished a two-day tournament located at Starvation Reservoir. Reser-voir. The weather was perfect throughout both days. The Anglers attempted to reel in smallmouth bass. During both days, the anglers had a difficult time hooking any fish worth keeping in their live well. The first day tournament went to Alex Medrano, of Craig, Colo., with a weight of 7.06 pounds. Second place went to Steve Drake, of Craig, Colo., with a total weight of 6.91 pounds. Sammie Russel, with a weight of 6.60 pounds, secured third place. Drake won the biggest fish contest with his 2.16-pound smallmouth bass. The second day winner was Larry Ungaro, of Rangely, Colo., with a weight of 8.41 pounds. The second place winner was Sidney Reeves, of Ogden, with a weight of 7.45 pounds. The final winner of the day was Jessie Atwood, of Vernal, with a weight of 7.3 pounds. Uintah Basin News Service Former Union and Highland High School football star, Jeremy Conetah, is trying to organize a semi-pro team in the Uintah Basin for athletes 18-years and older from Roosevelt, Vernal, Altamont, Duchesne or any town, who want to play. Conetah . can be e-mailed at conetah24 gmail.com or phoned at 435-724-3076. The proposed name for the team that would play football in the spring is the Uintah Basin Oilers. The Oilers would be a member of the Rocky Mountain Football League with teams in Utah, Idaho, Colorado and Montana. There are two divisions divi-sions AAA and AA with ten teams each. The league , has been in existence for 13 years. The Uintah Basin Oilers would play in the AA developmental division. Last year Conetah played tight end and defensive end for the Utah Heat. Previously he played for the Wasatch Wildcats in Orem. "I've moved back to Roosevelt and want to start a team. The spring football league begins play in March and ends in July," he said. "I missed last season because of a knee injury, but I'm back at 100 percent. I'm anxious anx-ious to be back in there playing again." Conetah is also seeking coaching coach-ing help and is checking out locations for playing football. He wants a core group of 25 players with 90 percent of them from the Uintah Basin. "We will start conditioning at Constitutional Parkin Roosevelt, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. In order to be in the league we need to show that we have a roster," he said. Conetah played quarterback on Union's sophomore team and then moved to Salt Lake City where he played receiver for Highland High, which placed second his senior year. He also coached Pop Warner youth teams. Area Ute youth participate in inaugural Tri-Ute Games By Pmbe Febib Uintah Basin Newt Service The inaugural Tri-Ute Games came to a close Wednesday after three days of competition, cam-eraderie, cam-eraderie, and fun. The Games were held in Towaoc, Colo., home of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and were created to foster friendship between be-tween the Northern Ute, Southern South-ern Ute, and the Ute Mountain Ute tribes. "The purpose of the games is to come together so our children can get to know each other better," bet-ter," said Robert Roybal, recreation recre-ation director for Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. Teams competed in basketball, basket-ball, volleyball, and traditional hand games in two different age groups 12-15 and 15-18. The Northern Ute Tribe was represented by 97 athletes. In the boys basketball competition com-petition the Ute Mountain Utes came out on top in both age groups, while in girls basketball the Northern Utes won both age groups. In theco-ed volleyball the Northern Utes were also victorious. victori-ous. The evebt finished with a few volleyball games "just for fun" and some cultural demonstrations. demonstra-tions. Roybal and other organizers organiz-ers hope to make the games an annual tradition, rotating the event between the three reservations. reserva-tions. "That way we all get to go and visit each other and get a better idea of who the Utes are and where they live," Roybal said. NOTICE OF PROPOSED TAX INCREASE .
