Show .Vernal Express, Wednesday, April 5, 2006 B11 Softball takes to the field . The Uintah High School Girls Softball team had an interest ing time on April Fool's Day, competing in three games. The first game was against Woods Cross High School. The girls stepped onto the field with great anticipation and took an early lead. As the game progressed, pro-gressed, Woods Cross managed to score a few runs, but Uintah maintained a comfortable lead throughout the game. The final score was 12-4 in Uintah's favor. The next game held was against Grantsville High School. The Grantsville players play-ers were on top of their game as they took the field, but the Uintah girls maintained their intensity. The game was tight throughout, with neither team able to forge a large lead. After a hard fought nine innings, the final score was announced 5-4 Utes. The final game took place late in the afternoon, with the Utes facing off against Tooele High School, one of the top ranked teams in the state. This game was where things got interesting. interest-ing. Defense and pitching were strong throughout the game, with both teams struggling to produce runs. With Toole leading lead-ing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the umpire ruled , that the time limit had expired and that the game was over. Hotline caller gets limited entry deer permit On Nov. 5, 2005 the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources' (UDWR) Help Stop Poaching Hotline received a call from a concerned citizen. The caller reported seeing someone shoot at a buck deer from a truck parked along the Crouse Road and later seeing a buck in the back of the same truck. The deer season on the Diamond Mountain Limited Entry area was closed. "Because he called in something some-thing suspicious, (which resulted in a conviction) the caller will receive a limited entry buck deer permit," said Conservation Officer Randy Scheetz. "During our investigation investiga-tion we learned that numerous other people' had driven past the truck as it sat there waiting for someone to bring another tire to replace a flat. We even learned another citizen actually helped load the poached deer into the truck. Anyone of these people could have called." The Hotline contacted Scheetz who was working north of Vernal and gave him the license plate number and other information. infor-mation. Scheetz went to Vernal in an attempt to locate the vehicle vehi-cle and requested help from other officers. After looking for the vehicle for a couple of hours, Scheetz found a vehicle matching the description and license - plate UHS Track meet results Hurdles, javelins, shot puts, and runners were all present at the Uintah track meet held at Uintah High School last week. The track meet featured several different events for the boys and girls team. The girls competed in many events, starting with the 100 meter hurdles. In this event, Vanessa Peterson took 4th with a time of 19.08 seconds, followed by Sarah McPhie and Heather Fugal, placing 5th and 6th with times of 20.95 and 21.78 seconds. Next was the 100 meter dash. In this event, Shannon Fleetwood placed 1st with a time of 13.93 seconds. Sara Fleetwood followed in 4th with the time of 14.55, and Jessica Wallis took 6th with 14.63 seconds. sec-onds. Courtney Burrows and Hayli Abplanalp came in at 13th and 14th, taking times of 15.26 and 15.53 seconds. Kaleena Peltier also made a 13'06" vault, taking 6th overall. Shannon Fleetwood and Catlin Chivers placed 7th and 8th with vaults of 13'04". Sara Fleetwood followed in llfh place with a vault of 12'10". Jessica Hunting, Hannah McPhie and Mary McKee did not place. The 400 meter relay was next, with Uintah's A team taking 55.80 seconds. After that was the 400 meter dash. Nicole Brady took 2nd with the time of 1:08.92 minutes, followed by Kaleena Peltier and Andria Jones in 3rd and 4th with times of 1:09.82 and 1:10.80. Sara Fleetwood and Jessica Wallis came in at 7th and 9th with times of 1:14.76 and 1:15.19 minutes. Amber Martin finished things up for Uintah in 10th place with the time of 1:16.16. Kris Cochran, Stacia Dickson,- and Alesha Perry competed in the shot put, taking 4th, 5th, and 7th place with distances of 23'09M, 2101", and20'01". In the 1600 meter run, Mary McKee took 2nd place at 6:40.76 minutes and Emilv Sullivan took 7:53.11 minutes and 6th place. In the Javelin event, Hanna McPhie threw 66'05" for 1st. In the 1600 meter relay, the A Team took 1st with the time of 5:17.90 minutes. The girls 300 Meter Hurdles were next, with Sarah McPhie, Heather Fugal, and Hannah McPhie taking 2nd, 4th, and 5th with times of 55.008, 1:02.95, and 1:08.73 minutes. In the four hundred meter relay, Uintah A and B placed 1st and 3rd with times of 45.69 seconds sec-onds and 1:02.37 minutes. The 400 meter dash was next, with LJ Heaton and Ryan Garner taking 1st and 4th with times of 52.76 and 58.16 seconds. Ashton Guibord took 7th, coming in at 1:00.57 minutes. The 1600 meter run had Eric Funk in 3rd with 5:23.19, followed by Cody Smith and Jantzen Bruch in 18th and 19th with times of 6:10.57 and 6:16.92. Codye Behrman placed 22nd with the time of 7:32.95. The 300 meter was competed in by Brett Nielson, who placed 7th with 50.21 seconds. In the 800 meter event, Wesley Wood took 1st with 2:21.81 minutes, followed by Jesse Greenwood in 3rd with the time of 2:28.53. The driver was identified as Dustin Person of Vernal. After an investigation, Person admitted to shooting the buck without a valid license. He also admitted to shooting another deer found during the investigation investi-gation a few days earlier near the Honda Hills. After pleading guilty to two counts of wanton destruction of protected wildlife wild-life for shooting the two deer, he was sentenced to four days in jail and ordered to pay $2800 in fines and restitution.
