Anyone who wants to have a day of fitness and fun while raising money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis can participate par-ticipate in the walk. The purpose of the walk is to raise money for MS research and local programs which benefit ben-efit Utahns living with the disease. dis-ease. It also helps to educate Utahns about MS, a chronic, unpredictable, and often disabling dis-abling disease of the central Sterling On Monday, March 27 Uintah High School hosted host-ed their 2005-2006 Sterling Scholars to a night of fine dining din-ing and recognition. After being served a European buffet, the scholars were awarded $100 scholarships donated by Gary and Maryann Showalter through the Uintah School's Foundation. Utah State University also awarded each Sterling Scholar with a scholarship to attend the Uintah Basin Campus. Four Sterling Scholar Alumni Scholarships were given to Sterling Scholars who have shown exemplary "heart" in the Sterling Scholar Program. The first annual Sterling Scholar Scholarship was awarded last year. These scholarships come from dona- tions made by friends, fam- Stearmer and Miss Kay Baker. While there I acquired a love for their traditions: tradi-tions: Scottish pastries, warm generosity, and Fish n' Chips rolled in the "London Times." Here is my recipe for Fish n' Chips: 1 cup flour 12 cup corn starch 1 tsp baking powder 18 tsp salt 1 Tbsp oil (peanut, cottonseed cotton-seed or corn) 23 cup water (or flat-ale or beer) 3 medium potatoes malt vinegar (or apple cider vinegar) to taste 8 2" by 12" thick sliced, fresh boneless fish (cod, snapper, snap-per, halibut, shark) white pepper 1 tsp worchestershire sauce juice from one lemon Procedure: BATTER: Combine first six ingredients for batter and set aside. Some facts about MS: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, disabling disease that randomly attacks the nervous system. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of the disease cannot be predicted; symptoms may range from tingling tin-gling and numbness to paralysis paraly-sis and blindness. Approximately one third of a million Americans have Scholars ily members, and past Sterling Scholars themselves, as well as community people who support the program. These Alumni Scholarships were awarded to Anne Shakespeare, Brinli Abplanalp, Whitney Southam, andCamiMerkey. The awards part of the program pro-gram was brought to an end with the awarding of two private pri-vate scholarships. Stephanie Galloway received the Kreg Augustus Family Scholarship for her work in the field of Visual Arts, and Brinli Abplanalp received the "Drive for Excellence" Scholarship. Brinli was complimented on her willingness to pursue excellence excel-lence in everything that she does. The evening concluded with remarks from Principal Robert sixths with skin on. Miss Baker's remarks centered cen-tered around her desire for every Sterling Scholar to use the "Force" from within themselves them-selves to achieve their dreams. She told of several past Sterling Scholars who have gone on to do just that She indicated that it was an honor to sit down to dinner with such an awesome group of young people asthis year's Sterling Scholars. Uintah High School's Sterling Scholars are preparing themselves to participate in the Northeast Utah Region Sterling Scholar Competition on April 18. vegetable oil PROCEDURE: Beat margarine in mixer at medium speed until fluffy. Turn mixer to low setting, adding flour slowly. Add dissolved dis-solved yeast and remaining ingredients. Turn mixer to medium speed and beat until well mixed. Remove, place in bowl. Brush dough lightly with oil. Cover with plastic wrap. Let rise one inch. Punch down and refrigerate. (Dough will keep several days if covered, and refrigerated.) When ready to use, roll dough out on lightly floured board to an eighth of an inch and cut with a biscuit cutter (or floured drinking glass). Cook in deep fryer at 350 degrees to golden brown on both sides. Makes 40 3" scones. The event was held from 1:30 to 6 p.m. and the Parish House was bustling as patrons took time to listen to the beautiful music and bid on a vast array of Silent Auction items, which were generously donated by local and state friends of the school. Uintah School District to hold Kindergarten Roundup and Screening Maeser and Davis Elementary schools have announced dates for upcoming upcom-ing Kindergarten Roundup and Screening activities. These activities are designed to both acquaint parents and students with kindergarten requirements, require-ments, and to alert school personnel per-sonnel to unique learning needs of their prospective students. "The classes provide a lot of support and there is absolutely abso-lutely no obligation to purchase a Curves membership." Regardless of the school students will be attending in the fall, they should attend Roundup and Screening at either Davis or Maeser Elementary Schools. Parents are requested to bring copies of birth certificates and immunization records to the Roundup. Both parents and prospective prospec-tive students are involved with Screening, with about one hour required for completion of the screening. Screening activities activi-ties for both schools will be completed at the Ashley Valley Education Center, 250 S. Vernal Ave. In order to be eligible for participation, par-ticipation, students must reach the age of five on or before Sept. 1, 2006. Maeser Elementary has scheduled their Kindergarten Roundup for Tuesday, April 18. Sessions will be held at the Maeser Kindergarten Center at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with parents allowed to choose one of the two sessions to attend. Specific appointments will then be set for Kindergarten Screening, with April 19 and April 26 designed as the dates for those activities. Davis Elementary has scheduled their Kindergarten Roundup for Thursday, April 27 at 10 a.m. As part of Roundup activities, parents will sign up for specific appointments for Kindergarten Screening. Screening dates have been set for May 3 and May 10. All eligible students and their parents are encouraged to actively participate in these activities. |
