The Vernal PeeWee hockey team suffered a disappointing disappoint-ing loss Saturday in Bountiful against the Davis County Wind team. Davis County scored first followed fol-lowed by Vernal Raptor, Duel Hacking scoring unassisted, to even the score. Vernal's Justin McDonald, assisted by Hacking, made the only goal in the second period. In the third period, hopes of a win were high, as the score remained 2-1 with Vernal on top. Then in the last 55 seconds, sec-onds, Davis County scored to tie the game, 2-2. In an intense four-minute over-time, neither team could break the tie and the pressure pres-sure fell on the goalie, Dustin Holmes, in a shootout. Each team took three shots. The Wind placed one and won the game 3-2. League play has now ended for the PeeWees, who have several wins and gained experience under Coach Wayne Simper and Coach Dwayne Richardson. The final games for the PeeWees will be in Craig, Colo. Friday evening. Fishing conditions unchanged Local fishing conditions have not changed from January. Ice fishing is recommended only in the moderate to high elevation lakes as almost all of the low elevation lakes have some open water. NORTHEASTERN REGION - Fishing report updated Feb. 21, 2006 BIG SAND WASH RESERVOIR RESER-VOIR Reservoir is drained for repairs to the dam and boat ramp. Should fill this winter and may be stocked as soon as the spring of 2006. BULLOCKCOTTONWOOD RESERVOIRS No new reports. Both reservoirs have ice but no word on ice safety. Check ice carefully before venturing out. Cottonwood, drained to repair the dam, has been refilled and received a few brooder bass last spring and catchable rainbows in the fall. Reservoirs are located locat-ed approximately 5 miles north of the town of Gusher. BROUGH RESERVOIR No new reports. Reservoir has ice. Check ice carefully before venturing ven-turing out. Note: Special catch and release regulations, please read proclamation. To get to Brough, take State Route 88 south from US Route 40 (Ouray Road). Turn west at the second dirt road past the high power lines. Follow this road approximately approxi-mately 2 miles staying to the left at each main fork. Road can be quite rutted. BROWNE SPIRIT LAKE No new reports. Old reports were both lakes had fishable ice. Area also has snow so access is by skis and snowmobiles. A fall survey on Browne found fewer fish but the population still has good numbers. The fish were also larger than the usual average size for Browne. Note: the summer fires in the Uinta Mountains did not impact the fishery and are considered quite beneficial to other wildlife wild-life in the area. EAST PARK OAKS PARK No new reports. Lakes have ice and fishable but always good to check ice carefully before venturing ven-turing out. CALDER CROUSE RESERVOIRS RESER-VOIRS Anglers reported fair ice fishing on both reservoirs. Fish were not very aggressive so it is difficult to tell when they strike. Baited hooks seem to work best. Area does have snow but most drifts have been crossed. CURRANT CREEK RESERVOIR RESER-VOIR No new reports. Has ice and fishing should be fair to good. Always wise to test ice before venturing out. Area has received more snow. FLAMING GORGE RESERVOIR RESER-VOIR Safe ice (4" to 6" thickness thick-ness or greater) extends from the Confluence area of the reservoir res-ervoir south to approximately the pipeline. The reservoir has new ice from Pipeline down but it just recently formed. There are also numerous pressure pres-sure ridges so please check ice conditions carefully! Ice has effectively closed all ramps. Ice fishing techniques vertical jigging jig-ging using tube or bucktail jigs tipped with a minnow or sucker meat. For the northern portion of the reservoir, white or chartreuse char-treuse colored 3" tube jigs on a 316 or 14 oz jig heads tipped with meat have been particularly particu-larly effective. There are many small and medium sized lake trout in Flaming Gorge, so please take advantage of the new eight fish lake trout regulation regu-lation (one over 28 inches) and harvest a limit. Rainbow trout fishing should be good to excellent excel-lent in 10 15 foot depths using small spoons or ice flies tipped with a mealworm or piece of nightcrawler. GREEN RIVER (upper) Flows are averaging 1400 cfs with one daily fluctuation possible pos-sible between 870 and 1700 cfs as allowed by the 2000 Flow Recommendations for recovery of threatened and endangered downstream fish. The flows typically follow a pattern of increasing between 7 and 11 a.m. and dropping after 10 p.m. Visit the Bureau of Reclamation website www.uc.usbr.gov for the latest information. Streamer fishing remains a good technique using brown, tan or olive wooly buggers, size 2 6, and light colored minnow imitations. Nymph fishing is the primary winter technique, with good results reported using olive, tan or pink scuds, size 10 16; bead head or tungsten tung-sten midge patterns, size 16 22; pheasant tails, size 16 20; Glo bugs and San Juan Worms. Spin fishermen should try small rapalas; spinners; black, brown or olive marabou jigs; and tube jigs.
