Show Wednesday. OKMiber t4, 2005 Ctl Sold weather Mm SAMA SAYS, r i 51 M(0)lnl (S(l(o)Sir .Vernal Express, ITS Hi V Almost all of the smaller waters are in the process of freezing. Pelican finally froze over last Saturday night and Sunday so a few adventurous anglers will probably give it a try this weekend. At least a couple anglers were out on the ice on ;:Crouse and Calder Monday - afternoon. They didn't do real well but they only stayed out for about 30 minutes because of the winds. Fishing reports by area are: BIG SAND WASH RESERVOIR Reservoir is ; drained for repairs and was treated to remove fish in last ; September. Plans were to improve the boat ramp and : then fill the spring of 2005, however how-ever it has been delayed until 2006. BULLOCKCOTTONWOOD RESERVOIRS No new reports. Both reservoirs should have ice but no word on ice safety. Check ice carefully care-fully before venturing out. Cottonwood received catchable . rainbows this fall. The reservoir reser-voir was drained to work on ;dam, refilled this spring and stocked with a few smallmouth bass to provide a broodstock. ' Reservoirs are located approx-" approx-" imately 5 miles north of the town of Gusher. ; BROUGH RESERVOIR No Inew reports. Reservoir should .'have ice., Check ice carefully ; before venturing out. j Note; ' Special catch and release regu-;lations, regu-;lations, please read proclamation. proclama-tion. To get to Brough, take ; State Route 88 south from US Route 40 (Ouray Road). Turn west at the second dirt road past the high power lines. ' Follow this road approximately approximate-ly 2 miles staying to the left at each main fork. Road can be quite rutted. BROWNE SPIRIT LAKE No new reports. Both lakes should have ice. Area has also received snow so lakes may only be accessible, by skis and snowmobiles. A Jsurlregl thife fall on Browne fourM fewer fish but the population stilT has good numbers. The fish were also larger than the usual average size for Browne. Note: the summer fires in the Uinta Mountains did not impact the fishery and are considered quite beneficial to other wildlife wild-life in the area. EAST PARK OAKS PARK No new reports. Lakes do have ice but conditions unknown. Check ice carefully before venturing ven-turing out. Area did receive snow. CALDER VCROUSE RESERVOIRS RESER-VOIRS Anglers reported fair ice fishing on both reservoirs. Fish were scattered rather clustered near one or two holes. Area received snow and high winds, drifts may make access difficult. CURRANT CREEK RESERVOIR RESER-VOIR No new reports. Should have ice and fishing should be fair to good. Test ice carefully before venturing out. Area has received snow. FLAMING GORGE RESERVOIR RESER-VOIR All reservoir ramps are open. Lake trout action is good with fish concentrating in Linwood Bay and gravel point areas between Holmes Crossing and Big Bend. Anvil Draw, Antelope, Stateline, Rawlins Draw, Sheep Creek, Gold Point, Jarvies and Mustang are other good areas. Linwood Bay is closed through December 15 from 6 p.m. through 7 a.m. to protect spawning lake trout. Good lake trout techniques include trolling bottom structure struc-ture using down riggers or steel line and flatfish, crank baits, or a flasher trailing a squid or small lure; or vertical jigging using tube or bucktail jigs with or without a minnow min-now or sucker meat. There are many small and medium sized lake trout in Flaming Gorge, so please take advantage of the six fish lake trout regulation (one over 28 inches) and harvest a limit Rainbow trout fishing has improved as fish move into shoreline and shallow water. Boat fishermen should do well at South Buckboard, Squaw Hollow, Anvil Draw, Linwood, Sheep Creek, Carter , Creek, Jarvies and Mustang trolling small lures, or a popgear and worm combo. Shore fishermen should try small lures or jigs, or fish a nightcrawlermarsh-mallow nightcrawlermarsh-mallow combo or Powerbait just off the bottom. Kokanee salmon and smallmouth bass fishing are slow. GREEN RIVER (upper) Flows are averaging 1400 cfs with one daily fluctuation possible pos-sible between 850 and 1700 cfs as allowed by the 2000 Flow Recommendations for recovery recov-ery of threatened and endangered endan-gered downstream fish. The flows typically follow a pattern pat-tern of increasing between 7 and 11 a.m., and dropping after 10 p.m. Visit the Bureau of Reclamation website www. uc.usbr.gov for the latest information. infor-mation. Streamer fishing has been good with observations of brown trout spawning activity. Try brown, tan or olive wooly buggers, size 2 6, and light colored minnow imitations. Nymph fishing is the primary late fall and winter technique, with good results reported using olive, tan or pink scuds, size 10 16; bead head midge, size 16 22; pheasant tails, size 16 20; Glo bugs and San Juan Worms. Spin fishermen should try small rapalas; spinners; black, brown or olive marabou jigs; and tube jigs. New Zealand Mudsnail densities have dramatically dra-matically increased in several localized areas near Little Hole, and have been documented within several miles of the dam. Please thoroughly clean mud and vegetation from waders, boats and fishing gear; and if possible, completely dry equipment equip-ment before leaving the area. A hot water bath (120 degrees Fahrenheit) will kill mudsnails, and spraying equipment with 409 or a similar soap solution before drying will increase effectiveness. GREEN RIVER flower) River has good flows for this time of year. No new reports. MATT WARNER RESER VOIR Ice anglers are reporting report-ing fair to good fishing. Area has received snow. MOON LAKE No new reports. The lake should have ice so check ice conditions carefully before venturing out Area has received snow. PELICAN LAKE Ice formed last Saturday and Sunday nights. Weather has been cold so Pelican may have enough depth to ice to try fishing this weekend. Ice will have fracture cracks and open areas where the ducks and geese are keeping keep-ing it open. Check ice conditions condi-tions carefully before venturing ventur-ing out RED FLEET RESERVOIR No new reports. Some ice forming form-ing along edges. STARVATION RESERVOIR Last report was little or no ice near the bridge. STEIN AKER RESERVOIR No new reports. Some ice forming form-ing in shallows. The reservoir has remained fairly high. UINTA MOUNTAIN LAKES AND STREAMS Lakes, ponds and slow-moving waters are mostly frozen. Mountains have received snow. Getting scattered scat-tered reports from anglers of fair to excellent fishing, especially espe-cially for brook trout and for brown trout in the larger streams. Always go prepared for serious weather as the Uinta Mountains are well known for the frequent unexpected unex-pected storms and high winds it receives. Note: four trout limit with a bonus of four more brook trout see proclamation proclama-tion for details. FOOTBALL 2005 ft' h rift s wba tjjf' I Zf9JX P Garden Gate " P tt.
