Lance Stubbs representing UBATCUintah High School placed 3rd overall in a welding competition held at Western Wyoming College in Rock Springs, Wyo. There were nine Wyoming schools with Uintah being the only out-of-state school represented. repre-sented. 18 welding competitors were given a 100 question welding weld-ing knowledge test and then were given a workable blueprint blue-print to build a project that was graded accordingly on flame cut, weld quality, open root and weld quality and accuracy. Lance received a $1000 scholarship to the school of his choice and merchandise totaling total-ing $500 from local vendors. Lance and Jeremy Behunin were the two welders sent from Uintah. Water Rights Division holds public UBATC wins back-to-back at State VICASkills USA welding competition. Uintah Basin Applied Technology College competed compet-ed at Salt Lake Community College for 28 schools assembled assem-bled to decide who was the best High School welding student in the state of Utah. Mason Winters represented the UBATC taking 1st place overall. This is UBATC's second sec-ond state champion in two years. Last year Doug Snyder also placed first at the first competition winning a trip for instructor Jeff Taniguchi and he to go to Kansas City for the nationals. Doug placed 28th in the nation overall. This year Mason gets the honor of competing at the national level in Kansas City representing the state of Utah in the National welding competition. compe-tition. Taniguchi has taken the welding program to the next level, with the welding program pro-gram at the UBATC consistently consis-tently placing winners at this level for the past five years. Students are trained to the industrial standards and their skills are among the best in the nation. Vernal's meeting will be April 20 at 1 p.m. in the Uintah County Commission Chambers and courtroom. Information will be provided regarding Utah's entitlement, current level of use, approved yet undeveloped applications to appropriate water appropriation appropria-tion policy and other related items. The meeting will last about an hour with additional time to allow for questions and comments. UBATC Uintah High School Welding Department students win big at College of Eastern Utah welding competition. Uintah High School UBATC defends its winning streak for the 3rd year straight for taking tak-ing first place at the 3rd annual College of Eastern Utah statewide state-wide welding competition. This years winners were Mason Winters 1st place overall, over-all, Lance Stubbs 2nd place and Brant Holmes 5th place. There were six schools represented around the state with a total of 18 competitors. The compe tition included a 50 question welding theory test and a practical prac-tical lab examination which included SMAW(arc welding) GMAW(wire feed welding): GTAW(tig) and oxyfuel cut ting. All contestants worked from a workable blueprint to build their projects. The winners received up to $200 dollars worth of merchandise from local vendors for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
