I hear people say that they keep an open mind about everything. ev-erything. Sometimes it is so open that I suspect that their brains have fallen out. Many are living an unexamined unex-amined life. They take in everything every-thing and believe anything. How terrible. How do I know? Because I lived in such a way myself. I would try just about everything for a while. Then I would move on to something else. Nothing seem to satisfy. I believed in God. That is I knew that there was a God, but I did not think that He was really interested in-terested in me or what I was involved in-volved in. I was content to leave Him alone as long as He left me alone. So alone I was. Actually I was very lonely. Life was missing something very important. I sought to find that missing ingredient. I tried the various vices of life, but they failed to satisfy. Then I tried the finer things of life like religion and education. They too only reminded re-minded me that there is more to life than what I had. I thought of myself as fairly intelligent. intel-ligent. I was able to take care of myself, earn a living, and carry on a conversation with people. However, I had made some very terrible deci Learn the basics Most good jobs require certain basic skills taught in high school. Nearly all employers expect mastery mas-tery of basic arithmetic, reading, and writing. Even though these basics ba-sics are taught, are the students learning? Albert Shanker, President of the American Federation of Teachers said, "The economic and social facts of life demand that we educate vasi numbers of youngsters once bypassed by-passed by our schools. To accomplish accom-plish this, educators need to stop trying to think of new ways to fine-tune fine-tune the status quo to inch up test scores by a few points here and there or to move youngsters more efficiently through the diploma mill. Our schools now are more tooled to process students than to educate them." BUHHEBBB I r Model EUREKA ?450AT.Br Bieam, cleaner Brush Plus I T fJ . . I,'. . Most often I was fleeing flee-ing from Him. The Bible says that there is none who seek after God. My only hope was that God was seeking me. One Bible teacher referred re-ferred to God as the hound of heaven heav-en who seeks out men from the paths of sin. That is where God sought and found me. I am glad that He did. Since I have repented of my sins and 'received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior my life has been changed. God has changed me as I could have never changed myself. Perhaps some of this strikes a familiar fa-miliar chord in your life. Are you seeking a fuller and more meaningful meaning-ful life? Are you running to religious reli-gious events in hopes of finding meaning? Does your life lack direction? direc-tion? Will you not do what millions have done.? Will you not turn to Jesus Christ repenting of your sins. He alone can save you! Jesus said that He has come that we might have an abundant life. That life can be yours if you will accept Him as Lord and Savior. Then you will want to go to a church were the Bible is taught and held up as the only true Word of God. He is seeking seek-ing you! Dr. John S. Dacey and Dr. Alex J. Packer answered, "Many of the right answers that kids learn in school are quickly forgotten. The resulting attitudes that children learn, however, are not so easily forgotten. These attitudes discourage discour-age children from questioning assumptions, as-sumptions, from breaking the mold, from going beyond what's right to what's important." If anyone knows of a student who is having trouble with basic skills such as reading, writing, or arithmetic, arith-metic, ask a school counselor for help immediately. Whatever a student's stu-dent's plan for the future, they can learn these skills now. It's essential that student's have them. Do not assume that some person, circumstance, or luck will probably take care of you. Choose to use the assistance your school offers you now.
