Then, if needed, the scores of the tiebreaker tie-breaker will be used to break the ties as outlined in 6 and 7 below. 3. Ties will be broken by using the tie breaker, the person with the smallest point differential between actual scores and predicted scores will win the tie breaker. If after using the tie breaker there is still a tie, then whoever had the closest score to the winning team will be the winner. win-ner. Heading into the Thursday and Friday contests, the J.V. team was competing without starter Jeremy Pierce and Mike Jackson, leaving just one player on the bench for substitution, that playerJeremy play-erJeremy Sparger was still re-habbing re-habbing back from a knee operation and has seen limited playing time. The team also had three sophomores sopho-mores on the bench, but none had practiced enough with the team to efficiently run their offenses or defenses. de-fenses. What it meant was that the starting five would basically play two 'ironman games. "Realistically, our best chance of winning either contest would have been to build an early lead and try to hold on through the last quarter. Both Tabiona and Altamont have good, solid programs. Their kids hustle the entire game and we weren't able to gain any kind of lead at all," Coach Barker said in commenting on the team's 58-47 loss to Tabiona Thursday and 48-67 loss Friday night to Altamont. The Utes did grab early leads in both games, only to lose the leads and games as the contests wore on, Thursday's game with Tabiona did feature a vastly improved team despite the extra challenges the players faced. Uintah took an early 9-3 lead before be-fore suffering a three point barrage late in the first quarter as the Tigers roared back for a 16-11 first quarter lead. Led by Cory Kebert's eight second half points, Uintah stayed close, trailing just 29-23 at the half. It was Greg Gardiner's turn to get hot in the third, scoring eight, but Gardiner received little help from the rest of the team as Jeremy Sparger was the only other Ute to score (2) as the team entered the fourth quarter trailing 44-33. In the fourth, it was Kebert's turn to bear to scoring weight again as the Ute sophomore pumped in seven of his team high 17, but again the team as a whole struggled. "The kids worked their tails off to stay in the game, but turnovers killed us in the fourth, plus the fact we couldn't make a basket to save our souls," Barker related. The other factor was a Tabiona player by the name of Matt Fabrizio. The Tiger swingman scored eight of his game high 18 in the fourth quarter to keep his team on top and lead them to the 58-47 victory. Gardiner was the next highest high-est Ute scorer behind Kebert with 14. Tucker Caldwell scored seven, Wes Madsen six, Justin Mcpheters two and Lucas Loveland one. Friday's game followed a similar pattern as Thursday's. Behind a balanced bal-anced offensive attack, Uintah grabbed a 14-11 lead after the first quarter. Again, stamina became a factor as the team was continually beat down the floor for easy Longhorn layups as Altamont took a 29-24 halftime lead. In the second half, the Utes simply had no legs left while Altamont ran to a 47-35 advantage after three and 67-48 final. fi-nal. Altamont was led by Dallon Fieldsted's 19 and TJ Farnsworth's 17. Tucker Caldwell led Uintah with 15 followed by Greg Gardiner with 12, Kebert with nine, McPheters eight and Wes Madsen with four. 9:?- fcfA 'tiH l?5 - ttd-fJr ii " , '' , LA 3 Cory Kebert battles TJ Farnsworth all 6'-9" of him for rebound during Friday's 68-47 loss.
