Organizations donate car seats In a joint effort, Ashley Valley Medical Center, Uintah Basin Public Health Department and the Utah Highway Patrol provided infant in-fant car scats and safety education to eight local expectant mothers'. Expectant mothers were selected by Ashley Valley Medical Center based on request and need. Uintah Basin Public Health Department Council proposes changes to 1996 bear proclamation The Northeastern Region Wildlife Advisory Council (RWAC) voted to recommend a few changes in the 1996 Bear Proclamation during their December meeting. The Council recommendation to the Utah Wildlife Board is to increase the application period an additional 10 days and to close the fall pursuit season. These recommendations came to the request of hunters. The additional application time was requested to allow hunters to contact friends and clients to arrange ar-range schedules and make plans. The request to close the fall pursuit season was due to numerous requests re-quests from deer and elk hunters to limit potential conflicts between the two different hunting styles. The council then voted to accept the rest of the proclamation as proposed pro-posed by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources including increases in-creases in the number of bear permits per-mits for the Vernal, Range Creek and Book Cliffs units. The Division proposed a 25 bear statewide with 20 in this region' including two on the Vernal Unit, six on Range Creek and 12 in the Book Cliffs. Xujfi J ' provided the car seats and coordinated coordi-nated safety education with the Utah Highway Patrol. A class was held at the Utah Highway Patrol office of-fice where Trooper Jack Peterson gave detailed comprehensive instruction in-struction on car seat use. Emphasis was placed on proper installation in various types of car restraints. Some seats are still available through the Uintah Basin Public On other issues, the Council recommended rec-ommended the Wildlife board tentatively ten-tatively accept one of the two proposed pro-posed Posted Hunting Units with some modifications. The Council also reviewed the seven draft Deer Herd Management Plans for the northeastern region with Division biologists. Draft plans are available to the public through the UDWR Regional Office, 152 East 100 North in Vernal. The Council will receive written comments on these drafts until Jan. 15 and will take verbal comments during their next meeting on Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Utah State Extension Building, 1680 West Highway 40 in Vernal. Comments should be addressed to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Attn. Deer Management , Plans, 152 East 100 North, Vernal, UT 84978. Comments should identify iden-tify and be specific to a particular management plan. They should also include reasons for agreeing, disagreeing dis-agreeing or other proposals.
