The Advisory Council will hold a scries of seven public meetings across the state in May and June. The Vernal meeting will be held Thursday at the Vernal City office from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. "Local government officials often feel overwhelmed when they try to comply with mandates imposed on them by the state or by the federal government," Parker said. "These hearings arc an opportunity for county commissioners, mayors, and council members to make sure their voice is heard and their input is put to good use." ' UACIR will take input at the seven sev-en meetings, held around the state, and will then develop an action plan to promote the removal or modification modifica-tion of these mandates during the 1996 State legislature or during the congressional session. UACIR is an advisory council to the governor and the legislature consisting of local government offi cials, stale legislators, members ot the governor's cabinet and private citizens. Its mission is to improve the partnership between and among state, federal and local governments. govern-ments. Governor Mike Leavitt has charged the council with the task of identifying and removing state mandates man-dates on local governments. "These hearings will give us an opportunity to hear from government govern-ment officials at the level closest to the people," Parker commented. "We hope to get some good, specific specif-ic feedback on what makes an already al-ready tough job even tougher for local lo-cal elected officials." The meeting schedule is as follows: fol-lows: Wednesday, May 31, 2p.m.-4p.m. Thursday, June 1 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 7 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 13 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 14 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 27 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Room 303, State Capital, Salt Lake City Vernal City Council Room, 447 E.
