Conoco to develop natural gas field Conoco, Inc. is proposing to develop de-velop a natural gas field on leases they control on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. The project pro-ject is known as the Natural Buttes-Ouray Buttes-Ouray Development Project and would be located in an area along the White River near the town of Ouray. Plans call for the construction of 11 wells and associated facilities in an area where oil and gas development develop-ment already occurs. Project development devel-opment would consist of drilling development de-velopment wells and installing a gas gathering system. Access to the area would be provided by existing roads. Conoco plans to develop two wells in the fall of 1991 with the remainder re-mainder of the wells scheduled for construction during 1992. Additional field development would be possible in the future dependent on the outcome of the initial project The Bureau of Indian Affairs is conducting an analysis of the effects of this proposed project and an Environment Assessment has been prepared. Questions, comments or concerns about the project should be directed to Roland McCook at the BIA in Ft Duchesne by August 30. To contact the BIA call 722-2406. The majority of the money was recovered about three miles southwest of the Randlett Store. Hog Canyon is undergoing special scrutiny this year due to the presence pres-ence of a small population of Ute Ladies Tresses, or Spiranthes Diluvialis. This orchid is thought to be globally rare, and has been formally for-mally proposed for listing as "threatened" on the federal Endangered Species List. Hog Canyon, located beyond the Cub Creek Road in Dinosaur National Monument, supports the most tenuous tenu-ous of the know populations of Spiranthes Diluvialis. The habitat study in progress includes in-cludes stream gauging, vegetation inventory and mapping, and a soils survey. The information gathered will not only guide management decisions de-cisions on the rehabilitation and . monitoring of the Hog Canyon riparian ri-parian community, but will contribute con-tribute to the study of Spiranthes Diluvialis throughout the plant's existing ex-isting and potential range. Passing on our increased knowledge of this beautiful canyon to monument visitors visi-tors will be another important contribution con-tribution made by this study. As with most projects conducted in the monument, the work in Hog Canyon is being accomplished cooperatively. co-operatively. Many departments within the monument, other National Park Service offices, and a number of state and federal agencies are contributing.
