The rate hike amounts to an additional addi-tional $601,498 for the company annually from its 5,200 Utah customers. cus-tomers. The company is asking for an increase in-crease in its allowed rate of return on equity to 14.32 percent in contract with 11.8 percent the PSC allowed U.S. West earlier this year. Utah Gas Service is also asking for approval to increase its monthly customer charge to residential and business customers from the present $2 per month to $5 per month. Customers would pay $5 per month in addition to what they pay for the amount natural gas used. The company is proposing to rc- m tomers by 5 percent and pass on the difference in those rates to the residential resi-dential and business customers. The Utah Committee of Consumer Services is a state agency that represents the residential, small business and agricultural consumers con-sumers in utility cases before the PSC. The committee is questioning not only the total amount of the $601,498 rate increase requested by many of the individual components that make up the expenses that are passed on to Utah customers. Public Service Commission hearings hear-ings are scheduled in Salt Lake City Dec. 14 and 15 and the Committee will be representing consumers in the case. Those consumers who wish to express their concerns about the case to the PSC may do so by calling toll free 1-800-874-0904 and asking to be referred to the Committee of Consumer Services.
