Show Yemal ExpreSS Wednesday. August 16, 1989 Uintah County Fair 1989 After about a 15-year absence the Uintah County Fair made a great come-back this year. During a time when county fairs throughout the state are having a struggle to keep alive, it is a credit to all those who worked so hard to restore the Uintah County Fair. The fair in Vernal was discontinued years ago because be-cause of the lack of interest and a budget which exceeded ex-ceeded what the County Commissioners thought was justified. The 4-H Fair took the place of the regular county fair until this year. Now it is time to assess the success and expense of of the 1989 Fair and make plans for next year's fair. This year has been a learning experience and a base for building bigger and better fairs in the future. To start up the county fair activities after such a long inactive inac-tive period will take more than just one year. Many people were surprised at the interest and attendance atten-dance at many of the fair events. Next year those who missed many events will probably make a greater effort ef-fort to attend events that proved to be very successful this year. During the past 15 years interests of the community have changed, so this year's revival of the fair was a brave attempt to determine the activities that would interest in-terest the community. The Fair Board did a good job of organizing and including in-cluding those activities that go into a county fair. The board should be congratulated for the time and effort they gave to this year's fair. Some of the outstanding features of this year's fair were the queen contest, demolition derby, Rodney Crowcll and Dan Seals concerts, parade, horse pulling contest, and fireworks. Of course there were other important im-portant contests, events and exhibits that are typical of county fairs. When a fair is spread throughout an enure week it takes some time management on the public's part to decide de-cide what to see and attend. Next year it will be easier to get organized and make the necessary effort to see all there is to see at the county fair. The parade was the longest this year and one of the best to go down Main Street for a long time. This year's theme, "Striving for Unity in 89" is a very timely challenge that is essential for community growth. A county fair does create a uniting influence that brings together different interests into a common goal of achievement. A county fair gives the community the opportunity to witness some of the best entertainment in the state and country. This year's fair did a good job in building up the community. We owe a hcartwarm thanks and appreciation apprecia-tion to fair chairman Jean Frabrizio and her board for their hard work and to the County Commissioners for underwriting and reviving the Uintah County Fair.
