I it Below-average year forecast for Upper Colorado reservoirs The spring runoff forecasts for the Upper Colorado River Basin indicate a below-average water supply . in most regions. Upper Colorado Regional Director Clifford Barrett of the Bureau of Reclamation announced. announc-ed. "Inspite of some predicted water shortfalls, the Bureau of Reclamation reservoirs should be able to provide a full supply of water," said Barrett. The water supply outlook for the northern part of the Basin is below normal. Runoff forecasts range from 60 to 80 percent of average. In the southern part of the Basin, that portion drained by the Colorado, Gunnison and San Juan Rivers, tne flow will range between 100 and 150 percent of average. Inflow and releases along the upper up-per Colorado River System are estimated as follows: Fontenelle Dam, Wyoming (Green River). During the repair of Fontenelle Dam, the reservoir will be kept as low as possible. In 1987, the reservoir elevation is not expected to rise above elevation 6,445 feet. Snow course measurements above the dam indicate a 70 percent of normal snowpack. Peak inflows and releases are expected to be about 8,000 to 10,000 cubic feet per seconds (cfs) and releases are expected to drop to 1,000 cfs by mid-August and to 500 cfs by late September. Flaming Gorge Dam, Wyoming, Tridell Lorna McKee Phone 247-2350 Clyde Youngs celebrate 40 years together May 2 Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Young were honored at an open house at their home Saturday afternoon celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. Because below normal inflows are forecasted, powerplant releases have been curtailed cur-tailed this winter and spring to fill the reservoir. To accommodate endangered en-dangered fish studies. Flaming Gorge releases during mid-May will be raised to near powerplant capacity capaci-ty (4200 cfs). Late-May and June releases will continue fairly high, though fluctuating on a daily basis. In terms of fishing and rafting flows, releases this summer will drop from high flows in the spring to low flows in the late summer. About mid-July mid-July through the first week in October, Oc-tober, releases from the dam will be constrained to a 2,600 cfs maximum. Glen Canyon Dam (Lake Powell), Utah, Arizona, (Colorado River). Flows below the dam, now fluctuating fluc-tuating between 5,000 cfs and 20,000 cfs daily, will continue throughout May. Average flows will be about 13,000 cfs. Releases during June through September will depend on actual runoff, but at this point, predicted flows through the Grand Canyon will average 15,000 cfs in June, 19,000 cfs in July and August, and 15,000 cfs in September. Lake Powell is expected to be at its maximum elevation during July, within 2 feet of full. By the end of September, normal drawdown will take the lake to about elevation 3,690.
