Barrel racers to host first meet The Uintah Basin Barrel Racing Association will hold its first jackpot at the Jenkins Arena in Roosevelt, Saturday, April 25. Signups will be taken at 10 a.m. and the racing action will start at 10:30 a.m. Anyone is welcome to come and attend at-tend the jackpot. Race meet to occur Saturday The 1987 Spring Run Off Meet is set for Saturday, April 25 in Vernal. One, three, five mile runs and a walking event will take place and the cost is free. The event is being sponsored by Uintah County and Vernal City. Location of the racing meet will be Independence Park, 600 West 100 South. Anyone can enter and registration will start at 9:30 a.m. The racing will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 1 9S7 Rough Rider days to have new event A Ride 'N Tie contest will be a new event for the Roosevelt Rough Rider Days celebration, which will be held July 3 and 4. The new event will consist of three participants, two people and a horse. The contest will start at the bridge below Ft. Duchesne on the Independence In-dependence Road and will proceed to Roosevelt by way of a back road. One man will ride the horse to start the contest and other man will run. After a while the rider will stop and tie the horse. The runner will become a rider and travel to a point up the road. The rider will tie the horse and become a runner again. The change of rider and runner will take place six times during the course of the race. The finish line will be at the Teddy " Roosevelt monument at the south end of the Roosevelt Main Street. The winning team will have to cross the finish line together. Competitors will be traveling from the bridge south of Ft. Duchesne to Roosevelt in order to celebrate when President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt visited the area many years ago in the 1890s. The contest is open to anyone, who wishes to enter. A team can consist of two men, a man and woman or two women along with a horse. An entry fee has been set at $35 per team and the purse will be split 30 percent to first place, 15 percent to second place and five percent to third place. Chairman of the Merchants Committee Com-mittee is Polly Olsen and entry blanks can be picked up from her at Clothes Garden, Roosevelt City Chamber office, which is now located in the old library building on 33 North State Street or Gale's Office Supply. Naples meeting set for Friday The Naples City Council Meeting, which was originally scheduled for April 16, will be held Friday, April 24 and will begin at 7 p.m. at 1420 East Weatherby Drive. A city council meeting will also be held April 30.
