The fans get all excited and yell and scream for their favorite team to win or do their best. Moms and dads hope that little sister, big brother, little lit-tle brother or big sister shine during the talent show. The youngsters beam with pride when they point out to friends that their mom or dad is singing, dancing or whatever. Another big part of the UBIC celebration has been the various food stands. The main items are hot dogs and hamburgers, but some stands provide different and usual items for the hungry folks. One of the big treats is the annual parade and watching the beautiful floats, bands, drill teams and other entries. The young children like the parade because it gives them a chance to capture free candy. County Fairgrounds last week. One UBIC I will never forget is the-day the-day I became upset with a lady, who was host for a children's program on television. The lady was part of a UBIC show back in the 1960s and was giving away free balloons. My brother and his friends kept crowding into the line and I just went along for the ride. When we got to the front of the line the TV lady kicked us out of the line. I became upset and wouldn't go to the rest of the activities during that day. The TV lady saw my brother the next day and offered my brother some balloons to get me to come back, but I refused. However, I gave in and came back the next day. Baseball games always stand out in the UBIC celebration. One year a Little League all-star tournament was held with teams from Helper, Price, Roosevelt and Vernal. Helper and Price dominated the tournament and in some ways I was happy I didn't make the Roosevelt all-star team because I didn't have to get slaughtered by Vernal, Helper and Price. The sport of baseball has turned around in the city of Roosevelt. Union has competed in three state tournaments tour-naments in a row and have placed second se-cond once," reached the semi-finals and quarterfinals. Back in the days of the 1960s I never imagined that Roosevelt would be able to defeat Vernal or Helper in the game of baseball. The baseball dream for Roosevelt became a real thing this year as Union High School of Roosevelt gained a no-hit shutout win over Uintah High School of Vernal Ver-nal behind pitcher Mike Olsen and had Olsen hurl a no-hitter, according to the Price newspaper, over Helper, recently, in American Legion baseball. 7. 8. 0. 10. a n n n n n n u n i'P- u t3tJO$JrS lit)3 toy i J m SJ3MSUV ijyn' GO'S tiGuDS.. i it- Vernal City Uintah County Vernal Express Open Tennis Tournament Co-sponsored by Basin Sports Single play begins: August 12 Double elimination Doubles: August 25 Mixed Doubles: Sept. 3 Single climlnlnation consolation i f m i r; ..)
