Show 2 Vernal Express wednesdoy, M0y 23, 1984 By Jock Wallis Memorial This year Memorial Day falls two days earlier than the traditional May 30 date. The federal holiday has been moved to May 28 to make a long Monday Mon-day holiday weekend. Many municipalities and veterans' organizations still prefer to observe the traditional May 30 Memorial Day. But no matter the day, Memorial Day should be a time for showing respect and reverence for those who have passed on from this life. Memorial Day is a time to remember the many sacrifices that have been made in the name of mankind. Sacrifices on the battlefield in the conflict for freedom. Sacrifices on the home front exploring new lands, developing new communities and maintaining the freedoms of obtaining an education and gaining useful employment under a free enterprise system of government. We are grateful to be able to live in a land where so much has been provided. provid-ed. We enjoy luxurious living standards stan-dards when compared with those of a few generations back. We live in a day when computers are taking over the many technical functions of our day. We call this age a high tech society and depend on microchips and printed circuits to control our factories and businesses. It is hard to Imagine the many possibilities in the future use of the computer and the many changes that are in store for future generations who will live on the earth. Likewise, it is also hard to com Government spending in U.S. increases 742 times since 1902 TaJ al $-!.. t frikral. For this reason Memorial Day should be a day of thoughtful appreciation to all those who have given their lives, talents, discoveries and inventions to make this a better place and time to live. May we show our appreciation by paying proper respect to those who have passed on during this special day of memorial and may we strive to con-tine con-tine to make contributions to our communities com-munities by standing for good principles prin-ciples and be good examples for others to follow in years to come. We owe so much to so many who have paid a high price for our way of life. Let's not let them down. The high school graduates of 1984 face a golden age of opportunity as they go out into the world of continuing continu-ing education and occupational pursuit. pur-suit. Today's students have greater challenges than ever before. They face problems never faced before, but-they but-they have had the opportunity for better bet-ter preparation than ever before. We wish our graduating seniors success suc-cess in their future endeavors. May they continue in their pursuit for learning lear-ning in whatever field they choose and may the first 12 years of their formal education be a valuable resource In their continued accomplishments. fcf U di.Jbr, w-Urm '2 tr4 WZ, asA jid4Hin m if V S irj M mi Uf Ji t-f tWUr J- :.:jt4 ty flV-ff tliaft .
