Show Uinfcoh suffers 14-0 sefl back Wednesday, April 4, 1984 Vernal ExpressAdvertiser 3 1 The first game of a doubleheader between Uintah and Orem Saturday in Vernal on the Uintah diamond was tied at 0-0 after one inning, but the Tigers erupted in the rest of the game for 14 runs and a shutout win over the Utes. Uintah handled the Orem Tigers with ease in the top of the first inning as Richard Lamoreaux grounded out, Rich Ballard fliecf out and Jim Fowler grounded out. Orem also had an easy time in the bottom of the first inning as hurler Mike Gammell struck out David Gurr, Darin Nelson and David Wood. Orem cracked the 6-0 tie with nine runs in the tops of the second inning for a 9-0 advantage. Brad Eagar led off for the Tigers with a double. John Mackay and Steve Roberts were walked. Ted Severens singled and Hoyal ripped out a double. Eagar, Mackay, Roberts and Severens scored to give Orem a 4-0 lead. Lamoreaux singled and drove in Hoyal and Gammell with an Orem lead of 6-0. Ballard singled and Fowler was walked. Eagar ripped a pitch for a double and Lamoreaux, Ballard and Fowler crossed home plate with a 9-0 Orem lead. Mackay grounded out and Roberts struck out. Fowler was tagged tagg-ed out for the final out. The bottom of the second inning started out on a bright note for the Uintah Uin-tah Ute team as Kurt Robb singled, but Robb was stranded as Brad Richens, Wayne Hansen and Ryan Sid-doway Sid-doway were whiffed by Gammell. Tiger baseballers scored three more runs in the top of the third inning for a 12-0 advantage. Severens got on base on an error by the first baseman and an error by the Ute right fielder placed plac-ed Hoyal on the base paths. Gammell singled and Lamoreaux gained a double. dou-ble. Severens and Hoyal scored to put Orem up by 11 runs. Ballard grounded ground-ed out and Fowler reached first base on an error by the Ute third baseman and Lamoreaux scored Orem's 12th run. Eagar grounded out for the third out. Uintah was blanked in its half of the third inning on strikeouts by Rob-bins, Rob-bins, Glenn Murray and Gurr. Orem scored one run in the top of the fourth inning for a 13-0 lead in the ball game against Uintah. Mackay led off with a triple and scored on a single off a Ute glove by Roberts. Hansen snared a shot close to the fence for an out on a ball hit by Severens. Hansen also gained the third out as Hoyal flied out to the Ute right fielder. Nelson grounded out for the Utes in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Swim was retired on a back-to-home-plate catch by the Orem right fielder. Robb singled, but Richens popped up to the Orem catcher. The Tigers gained one more counter in the top of the fifth inning for a 14-0 lead over the Utes. Hoover flied out and Lamoreaux grounded out. Ballard singled and Fowler reached first bse on an error on the throw to the bag. Ballard scored Orem's 14th run. Eagar flied out for the final out. Hansen struck out for the Uintah Utes in the bottom of the fifth inning and Siddoway flied out to the second baseman in the outfield. Joe LeBeau was walked and Murray singled. The baseball hit by Murray was bobbled by the Orem centerfielder and LeBeau tried to move from second to third and was tagged out for the final out in the game. The game was ended on the ten run rule after five innings and Orem won the contest by the score of 14-0.
