The contest was the final basketball game of the year for the Utes. American Fork's Brock Knight put in the first points in the game on a field goal to put the Cavemen in the lead at 2-0. However, Uintah came right back and sophomore Mark Powell connected con-nected on one out of two free throw attempts at-tempts to cut American Fork's lead to one point at 2-1 with 6:59 left in the first quarter. - , The Cavemen scored four points in a row for a 6-1 lead, but a field goal by Kenny Rasmussen brought the Utes within three points of the American Fork lead. Travis Hansen and Knight struck for two each to give the Cavemen a 10-3 lead, but the Utes came right back in a basketball scor ing blaze of point glory as Kurt Robb scored on a driving layup and Gary Swim fired in a two-pointer to reduce the American Fork advantage to three points again at 10-7. American Fork scored to take a five point lead, but another two-pointer on a bomb by Robb placed the Utes within three points of the American Fork advantage. ad-vantage. However, six points in a row put the Cavemen up by nine in the game at 18-9. The Cavemen added four free throws for a 40-17 lead and Rasmuss-ed Rasmuss-ed put some points on the scoreboard for the Utes on a free throw and field goal, which made the score American Fork, 42 and Uintah, 20. Beck scored American Fork's 41st and 42nd points on a field goal. The Cavemen poured in five more points for a 47 to 20 halftime lead. Uintah scored 18 points in the third quarter, but American Fork pumped in 26 counters for a 73 to 38 advantage. Swim scored a two-pointer two-pointer for the Utes, but Hansen popped pop-ped in two free throws. The Utes scored four points in a row on two-pointers by Horrocks and Swim. Swim stole the ball to set up his successful shot at the hoop. Rasmussen had a shot drop through the hoop for two and Horrocks put in two free throws. Robb scored Uintah's fifth and sixth straight points on a field goal. Todd Mulville stole the basketball basket-ball and fired a pass to Rasmussen,' who delivered an aerial to Robb. American Fork outscored the Uintah Utes, 7-0 in the rest of the quarter for a 73-38 third quarter lead. J.R. Martin burned the basket for American Fork on two field goals to give his team an 84 to 42 lead. The Uintah Utes struck for point paydirt as they outscored American Fork, 17 to 10 in the rest of the fourth quarter and ended up losing the game by 35 points at 94 to 59. David Gurr erupted for six points on two field goals and two free throws and Todd Mulville burned the basket for seven points on three field goals and a charity toss. Joe LeBeau and Derick Adams pumped in two-pointers during the Utes' 17 point explosion. Swim led the Uintah Utes with 13 points in the game with American Fork. He fired in five field goals and hit 3 out of 6 free throws. Horrocks added nine points. He fired in three field goals and hit 3 out of 4 free throws. Also scoring for Uintah were: Robb, 8; Rasmussen, 7; Mulville, 7; Gurr, 6; Powell, 3; Keams, 2; Adams, 2 and LeBeau, 2. The Utes pumped in 23 field goals and hit 13 out of 20 free tnrows. Knight was the number one American Fork scorer at 16 points on eight field goals. Hansen fired in 15 points. He put in six field goals and hit 3 out of 5 free throws. Beck and Eliason added 14 points. Also scoring for American Fork were: Price, 9; Wellman,8; Martin, 6; Brent Boulter, 5; Chad Robinson, 4; Wade Murdock, 2 and Roy Bond, 1. The Cavemen put in 37 field goals and his 20 out of 31 free throws.
