She attended college at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas where she received her bachelor of arts degree in 1978, Her huband, Bo Lovell, was transferred to the Uintah Basin in 1979. She is the mother of one daughter, Aubrey, and is expecting the arrival of a new child in August. The Lovell familiy lives in Lapoint. Amy became a member of the Beta Nu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in 1980. She is the chapter's Sweetheart for 1983-84. Sherry Pilcher Beta Xi Xi Alpha Xi Xi Alpha Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority held their first meeting of the month on Feb. 6 at the home of Margaret Pilcher. There were nine members present and one guest, Manuela Oellermann. The chapter will be displaying their quilt in Ashton's store window. Tickets will be sold and the quilt awarded April 14. As a service project, Xi Alpha Xi will be giving a $250 scholarship to a senior girl majoring in fine arts from Uintah High School. An application ' form has been comprised for the applicants ap-plicants and may be picked up at the high school. All four chapters of Beta Sigma Phi sorority will be honoring their sweetheart queens at a dinner and Valentine Ball to be held Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Dinaland Country Coun-try Club. The cultural program for the evening, even-ing, given by Margaret Pilcher and Helen Foreman was titled, "Drug Abuse." Guest speakers, officer John Greene and Len Hooper from the Vernal Ver-nal Police Department, shared with the members the different types of drugs to be aware of and showed some of the paraphernalia used with drugs. Officer Greene talked about symp- Beta Xi has chosen Sherry Pilcher as their 1984 Sweetheart Queen. She has been a Beta Sigma Phi sister since 1981. Sherry was born in Grand Junction, Colo., to Mr. and Mrs. Leland Byers and raised in Fruita and Rangely, Colo. She was married to Paul Pilcher in Hawaii in 1975. That same year they were transferred from Rangely to Vernal Ver-nal where Paul is now president of CRC Bi-Co Rental, Inc. Sherry and her husband have three boys, Garrett, 5, Austin, 3 and Jordan, 9 months. When time permits, Sherry enjoys snow skiing, racquetball, golf and learning handicrafts. Merry Mrs. Club The Merry Mrs. Club met at the home of Margene Jolly. Her committee commit-tee was Carole Lynn Hall and Lisa Jolly. Mrs. Doug Gale gave a report on "stress." It was very informative on understanding the areas we should watch out for so we can control our own stress. Mrs. Gale came with her husband and Mrs. Karren Whiting. Twenty members attended the meeting and the next meeting will be the Mothers and Daughters Party. toms and indications of drug use. Helen and Margaret presented each member with a portfolio of drug infor-. mation, which was donated by the Mental Health Depatment of Social Services. The closing ritual was recited. The door prize was won by Gwen Rambo. Refreshments were served by the hostess. The next chapter meeting will be held Feb. 20 at the home of Gwen Rambo. Juanita shared experiences, mementos, pictures and information on her recent Mediterranean cruise on the Greek ship, "The Royal Odessey ." They visited the ports of Caracas, Venezuela, Acapulco, Panama and others. Scenery, history, interesting facts, mementos of handicrafts and entertainment provided an outstanding outstan-ding evening. A business meeting preceeded the program including details on the upcoming up-coming Sweetheart Ball and tentative plans for the St. Patrick's Day party for nursing home residents were discussed. Xi Alpha Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority chose Marilyn Gragert as their 1984 Valentine Sweetheart Queen. Marilyn became a member of Beta Sigma Phi in March 1983. She has held the office of corresponding secretary. Marilyn is presently the chapter treasurer and the scrapbook and historian chairman. Marilyn and her husband, Robert H. (Bob), moved to Vernal in 1971 from Illinois. Bob is district manager for Flint Engineering and construction Co. They have three children: David, Ft. Lupton, Colo.; Mrs. Rod (Barbara) Johnson, Vernal; Don, Utah State at Logan; and one granddaughter, Shara Johnson, Vernal. Marilyn's hobbies include crocheting, embroidery and camping. She also bowls on a local Vernal league. Marilyn and her husband are members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Vernal. When asked about the chapter that chose her as Sweetheart Queen; Marilyn said, "Xi Alpha Xi is a good group of ladies. They have made me feel welcome, plus our socials include husbands and families, which makes the sorority experience even more meaningful." , Marilyn will now compete in the International In-ternational Valentine Sweetheart contest. Helen Bennett, Preceptor Pi chapter's 1984 Valentine Sweetheart Queen, has been a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority since 1935. She was born and raised in Delta, Colo., in a family of six sisters and three brothers. She attended Ross Business College in Grand Junction. Helen married Gilbert Bennett in 1937 and has two daughters, Jerrie Helen and Susan, and seven grandsons. Flying with her husband and working work-ing with young boys are two of her hobbies. hob-bies. She also enjoys working with people, peo-ple, oil painting, all kinds of arts and crafts, bridge, sewing and the sorority. She has helped with many projects in Vernal, such as The Little Gallery of Arts, the bicentennial first ladies doll collection at the Uintah County Library, 4-H and as Girl Scout leader and many more. "This sorority has given me so much of each of the words in the motto, 'Life, Love, Learning and Friendship' and I've tried to give back as much," said Helen.
