Basin 4 H Field Day to include 6 counties A 4-H Field Day is scheduled at the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center Saturday Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4:3b p.m. The six-county field day will include participants from Carbon, Duchesne, Daggett, JEmery Wasatch and Uintah ,e counties. 4-H is a youth organization for anyone ages 9-19 years of age. Thei purpose of 4-H is to provide youth , development and leadership is open to , any youth. "The purpose of the Field Day is to assist any 4-H member or anyone interested in-terested in joining 4-H to understand the program better and provide leadership training," said Steve Cpx, area coordinator for USU Extension Services. "Each participant will ;be eiven instruction in their Interest area as well as assistance with 4-H incentive incen-tive programs, citizenship, leadership and record books," Cox said. "We also haveaections each hour to assist adult leaders," adds Holly Baker,,. USU Home Extension Agent for Uintah County.' " Scott McKendrick and John Paul Murphy, assistant state 4-H specialists ' from Utah State University will be participating along with many 4-H leaders in the area. McKendrick is the 4-H specialist in Ag related programs' which includes horses, livestock, and crops! Murphy, who is a fbrmer Roosevelt resident, is . the 4-H specialist in special programs, "their expertise will assist all potential and 4-H members," states Jim Stevens, USU Extension Agent for Duchesne County. ' . Workshops are scheduled in the following areas: livestock, horsemanships horseman-ships 1 record books,, entomology, clothing, photography, leadership, how to get started in 4-H, foods, : photography, and national , report forms. Other areas to be covered include: in-clude: gardening, adult leadership training,! citizenship, community service, ser-vice, activity ideas and incentive programs. I t 0 t ! "Our Town" is extremely similar to our town. The Uintah High School Drama Department will be performing perform-ing their last performance of the com- edydrama "Our Town" Wednesday, i Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. ' ,S Don't be surprised by the empty ,1 seats in the Uintah High School ;1 auditorium. All audience seating is on the stage where they can almost reach " out and touch the actors. - t'i The play is a love story about the 4 turn of the century in a small New?, Hampshire town of about 2,600 people:. The town is mostly Protestant and -j mostly Republican. , There are very few props in the play, t leaving it up to the audience to imagine im-agine the streets and houses in the town. The effect is unique in that most people will imagine their own house or main street of their own town giving the effect of "hey, this is our town." Thornton Wilder wrote the comedydrama com-edydrama on a bet with fellow writer that it is the word and people that make a great performance, not the props, and scenery. He proves his point. Because of the many requests to see the production, Claire Spencer, director, direc-tor, said there will be the special Wednesday performance. Five "Second , Miler" awards will be given to those leaders showing an effort to always go the second mile in their position. . ; Three "District Award of Merit" recognitions will be made. This award requires several years in Scouting,' knowing your job and doing it well. Many appreciation awards, Wives of t Scouters awards and special recogni- s tions will be made during the awards . ceremony. Wood Badge beads will be presented to those who have completed their training and worked their tickets to completion. Boy Scouts that have finished their Timberline Training, will also receive that award at the dinner. These boys and their parents are invited to attend. All leaders involved in Cubbing, Scouts, Varsity, Exploring, Blazer Scouts, District, or friends of Scouting are invited to attend the banquet. Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Vernal Junior High, the Uintah District Recognition dinner will be Kolene Manwaring, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Verdon Manwaring of Seattle, Seat-tle, Washington, became the bride of Russ Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Anderon of Vernal on Jan. 14 in the home of the groom's parents. The ceremony was attended by family and close friends. The couple then flew to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for their honeymoon. The couple are now making their home in Vernal. The back of each card was signed by the French colonial governor. Cost of the Field Day is 50 cents. Each participant is asked to bring a sack lunch and hisher record book if they have one.
