' 'll..,..3 j Four secondary students were recognized this week by Vernal Elks Club officers as they initiated their Teenager of the Month recognition program. At Uintah High School, Judy Jameson, daughter of Robert and Virginia Jameson, was given the award. As a senior, she is FBLA president, presi-dent, UHS Girls League secretary and in the Honor Society. She is a PTSA member and has been in the 9th, 11th and 12th grades; Forensics Club, 10th and 11th grade; also student member of the Chamber of Commerce Dinah Mites; and 1983 Girls State Citizen. She enjoys writing short stories and writing to pen pals, cooking, meeting new people, going to new places and working with the elderly. Also recognized at Uintah High School was Kurt Robb, son of Ronald G. and Maria Robb. He is a Eagle Scout, Honor Society member and attended at-tended Boys State. This year he is Boys League President and participates par-ticipates in football, baseball and basketball. He is captain of the football foot-ball team. He enjoys sports, skiing, backpacking, backpack-ing, hunting and woodworking. At the Vernal Junior High School, the Junior Teen Award was given to Keith Klein, son of Larry and Jean Klein. His interests include football, wrestling, hunting, fishing, trapping and snow skiing. Gayle Clark was also given the award. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Nuzman. She is on the Student Stu-dent Council and Honor Society. Her interests are drama, singing, and she works at the Bitter Creek Book Store. Nile came for the elk hunt, he and his father are planning on a successful hunt this year. Joe and Lele Weilend of San Jose, Calif, visited with the Blake Peterson's and other friends. They went on to Roosevelt to visit there. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kent are proud to announce the arrival of their baby daughter who arrived Oct. 8 in the Grand Junction, Colo. Hospital. Franccne Peterson had a slumber party last week, she invited a few friends over. The girls jumped on the trampoline, buked cookies and told spooky stories when they bedded down in the attic. A new couple and their two sons have moved into our area. They are Mr. and Mrs. Bill Yazzi. No Sunday School or Primary classes were held. Opening Open-ing exercises and special talks by Stake officers were given. Relief Society was held but the regular message was not presented, instead, the time was used by talks from stake officers who called on members for testimonies. Relief Society and other auxiliaries were cut short and the rest of the forenoon fore-noon used for a special sacrament meeting with President Alan Harmon of the Green River LDS Stake presiding. Bishop Glen Tinker conducted con-ducted the meeting. Besides the sustaining sus-taining of Church authorities by the State officers, various members of the ward and auxiliaries were called to give their testimony. The theme for the conference was "Reactivation" and was the topic for the testimonies. The Manila LDS Ward Relief Society Socie-ty Homemaking meeting was held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. the home-making home-making message was "Skillful Food Buying." This message was presented by Jolene Carter and showed that creativity can heighten the standard of living and that skillful food buying is more than buying food economically. Following the message mini classes were held on "quiet books," many patterns pat-terns for pages for these books were distributed to the workers, using wheat, and individual sewing problems. Plans are already made for the Nov. 1 homemaking meeting. The mini classes will be on making candy, Christmas decorating and making doll clothes. Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Lamb of Manila are parents of a boy born on Oct. 4, 1983 in Ogden, Utah. The little man weighted 7 pounds and 6 ounces at birth and will be named Kyle Steven. His maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wilkinson of McKin-non, McKin-non, Wyo. His paternal grandparents are Mrs. Velma Wright of Redding, California and the late Eldon Lamb of Manila. Saturday evening a few pick ups were carrying their elk out of the area. None were seen at the campsites. Not all of the vehicles on the mountain moun-tain this weekend were deer hunters. Many trucks and pickups carried fire wood. During the week .10 of an inch of moisture fell. The lowest temperature for the week was on the night of Oct. 3 when the next nights' reading was 33 below zero. The highest temperature was on Oct. 6 when the temperature reached 74 above zero. Mrs. Grace Jones is expected home Monday evening. Since Wednesday she has been staying with her sister in Evanston and has been an out patient in Salt Lake City. Many of the Manila people attended attend-ed the wedding reception of Louise Neff and John Goasr in Green River Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson visited in Neola, Saturday afternoon with Williams' sister Mildred Haslem, her daughter and her niece and children. Jl!
