"He keeps batters off balance," Morgan said. "He throws inside, he throws outside and he throws the curveball for strikes. At this level, that's what you need to do." The defense helped Hudgens out by turning two double plays and committing no errors. "He's a young pitcher," Morgan said. "[Good defense] is just such a confidence booster. It helps the pitcher relax when you get a double play. It makes the game a lot quicker and keeps the pitch count down." Starting catcher JC Pollard was out with an injury on Tuesday, but Payton Gross filled in behind the plate and did a great job working with Hudgens, Morgan said. Plus, Gross had three RBI to spur the Park City offense. "He steps right in," he said. "He calls a great game. He's been our [designated hitter], so he's been in the lineup. There's no step down when he comes in." Park City (11-9 overall, 8-3 in Region 10) has one more home game left on the schedule.
