SNOW LIZARD MAKES CELL PHONES TOUGH, A-8 www.parkrecord.com A-7 ACE TRANSPORTATION ALL GROWN UP, A-9 WED/THURS/FRI, MAY 30-JUNE 1, 2012 More ice cream vendors enter Park City for summer Sweet treat businesses flood into town, more than ever By GINA BARKER The Park Record Familiar summer pastimes are on the horizon: the sprinklers and Slip-n-Slides, the bugs in jars, the lingering smell of exploded fireworks. One of the most classic symbols of an American summer is the ice cream truck. Park City is no exception. An extra helping of ice cream truck and bicycle businesses will be operating in Park City this year. The Park City Council approved three mobile ice cream franchises last week, a licensing agreement giving permission to the businesses to operate on public streets. The franchises, which allow the mobile ice cream businesses to run from noon to dusk March through October, took effect starting May 24. A typical year may see one ice cream franchise application, said city business licensing manager Shelly Hart, and the number this year is more than ever in the past. The three ap- plications come from Yogui's Ice Cream Truck, Deliciouz Ice Cream, Inc. and Z-Cycles Ice Cream, allowing the businesses to operate as street vendors in city limits with a $100 licensing fee. Two of the businesses, Yogui's Ice Cream Truck and Deliciouz Ice Cream, Inc., will use trucks for routes, but Z-Cycles will be delivered by tricycle. Z-Cycles was created by Park City High School freshman Zach Brown as a way to gain business experience and seed money for a future business idea. Brown said he has bigger plans in mind, using Z-Cycles as his starting point. "I wanted to start something where I could make some money for myself," Brown said. "It's a good place to start, but I want to ultimately create a ski-racing accessories business. Before I do anything with it, I need to be able to launch it." His mother, Anne Brown, was there with her son as the franchise approvals were passed, a process that took only moments to complete. "This is a way, we thought, where he could learn about marketing and pricing and product," the high school student's mother said. "I think he'll have a neat niche, being a local kid," she added. Mary Gonzalez is a part-owner of Deliciouz Ice Cream, Please see Ice cream, A-8 City Code outlines specific guidelines for the incoming businesses. "The Grantee shall not sell food: 1) in speed zones in excess of 25 miles per hour; 2) in any school zone; 3) to patrons of either the Park City Golf Course or the Park Meadows Golf Course; nor 4) within an intersection or within 30 feet of an intersection," city documents read. "The Grantee shall be allowed to play music from the vehicle during hours of operation at a decimal level established by the Park City Police Department, which in no event shall exceed a level which is plainly audible from a distance greater than 50 feet." The three businesses are allowed to operate in neighborhoods, historic residential areas and along Sullivan Lane. We Lend. You Succeed. YOUR LOAN. OUR DIME. 1 No origination fees.2 No closing costs.
