Show The Park Record Wed/Thurs/Fri, March 9-11, 2011 Park City LAX kicks off season Silver Lake Village Submitted by Kristin Case The Chateaux's Exclusive Private Luxury Club The Park City High School boys' varsity lacrosse team athletes kicked off its season by playing five games in two days at the Best of the West Lacrosse tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., last weekend. The sunny 70-degree weather certainly helped motivate the team to play well. In a round of 21 men's Division I teams, Park City lost its first game and won the next three, resulting in participating in the playoffs, a firsttime feat for the Miners at this tournament. Park City lost narrowly in the playoffs to Brighton, the team that beat the Miners in the state finals last year. The team will play 13 games this season, thefirstof which is next Tuesday, March 15, at Bountiful Junior High School. The Park City High School girls' varsity lacrosse team also participated in the Vegas tournament, ending with a 2-2 record. O'Shea convincingly won the women's race with a lead of 2.40 seconds after clocking a total time of three minutes, 44.90 seconds. The 23-yearold dominated the competition from start to finish, posting the fastest start and finish times in all four heats. "Things just came together for me this week, and it feels great to end the season on a good note," O'Shea said. "I tried to forget about what happened this season and just slide well. I don't want to second-guess myself anymore. I decided to take the mistakes I made this season and use them to get better, which, really helped me this week." (March 5, 2011)-Skeleton athletes Annie O'Shea (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Matt Antoine (Prairie du Chien, Wise.) broke their respective track records en route to claiming the U.S. National Championship title at the Olympic Sports Complex. "This has been an exciting week," said TAiffy Latour, skeleton head coach. "We saw the track On a mission to regain confidence in her sliding ability after finishing 23rd at World Championships last weekend, O'Shea sped to the finish in 55.38 seconds to obliterate the Lake Placid track record. "It definitely gives me my confidence back," O'Shea said. "I know that people will be striving to beat what I've already achieved on this track, and that's pretty cool. I definitely needed this." Two-time Olympian Katie Uhlaender (Breckenridge, Colo.) was second to O'Shea. Kimber Gabryszak (Park City) was in second position after the first day of racing but slipped behind veteran Uhlaender with a combined time of 3:47.57 to claim:, bronze.
