Show B-3 The Park Record Wed/Thurs/Fri, March 9-11, 2011 Demschar wins national slalom title Submitted by Park City Ski Team The nation's best 15-and16-year-old alpine racers gathered in Sugarloaf, Maine, for the Junior 2 National Championship March 4 through 11. Daniel Demschar, skiing for the Park City Ski Team, won the slalom event on March 5 in decisive fashion. Demschar won the first run by .44 of a second on a tight course and deteriorating conditions, and then demonstrated poise on the second run lengthening his lead to .7 seconds. "It's great to see the confidence in Daniel and see him go out and do it," said J2 head coach Chad Wolk. Park City gets back its leading goal-scorer from last year in Alcox (eight goals) as it heads down south to take on Pine View High School in St. George Friday and Canyon View High School in Cedar City Saturday. Pine View is coming off a 3-2 season-opening loss to Wasatch at home, while Canyon View was thrashed by Desert Hills 5-0. Caro reiterated that preseason games are for learning and seeing what kind of team his kids can become. "I told them I'm very proud of them," he said.
