Often, it's so cold that parents reach out of car windows to give them hand warmers. "What Tve noticed," said local artist Lauren Vitulli, "is that Bob and Kevin have a great school because they set the standard themselves. Since it's an International Baccalaureate school that embraces community service, Bob and Kevin volunteer at things like the Arts Festival." "The best thing about working at Treasure Mountain International School is the genuine work ethic shown by my colleagues every day," eighthgrade English teacher Michelle Stratton said. "1 am surrounded by the most sincere and hard-working people I know. I learn from them, and they inspire me to be creative so I can offer the best of myself to my students." Vicki Whiting's third child will be in ninth grade at Treasure Mountain this year. "Treasure Mountain really does an incredible job of focusing teachers, administrators and staff on learning outcomes and respect necessary to set these teens up for academic and community success in their later years," at Treasure Mountain by building school spirit, encouraging academic achievement, and supporting the International Baccalaureate philosophy. "Treasure Mountain International School provides a great learning environment," Sean Kinsman, this year's Student Council Vice President, said. "Most people gripe about how old the school is and how small the halls are, but in my opinion these flaws help students to concentrate more on their work and less on what's going on outside, or other non-important things. Lastly everyone complains about having to get up early for school, but then at the end of the day is happy about getting out at such an early time, you have to give something to gain something and if the benefits outweigh the consequences why not get up early so you can go to the skate park, hang out with your friends, or ski for a good part of the day?" Classes begin Thursday, Aug. 26. Julie Hooker is an English Teacher and a Leadership/Student Council Advisor at Treasure Mountain International School. GET SHABU TO GO.
