The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) propose to utilize federal funds to reconfigure the existing Echo Trestle on Echo Road in near I80, Summit County, Utah. The project is being proposed in conjunction with the surfacing of a portion of the historic Union Pacific Echo Rail line. The proposed project would remove the existing railroad tie deck and replace it with a new railroad tie deck placed tightly together to provide a walk able surface. A chain link rail system is proposed as the safety rail along the length of the bridge. In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, a Categorical Exclusion document is being prepared for the project. In accordance with 36 CFR 800.6(a)(4) of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the FHWA and the UDOT are providing this letter to advise all interested persons or groups that the reconfiguration of the historic Echo Trestle would result in an Adverse Effect. Mitigation of adverse effects will be determined through additional consultation with the Utah State Historic Preservation Office. Any person or group wishing to submit comments regarding the Adverse Effect to the property may do so in writing or in person.
