By MICHAEL MCCALL For The Associated Press Sarah Johns; "Big Love in a Small Town" (BNA) New country singers too often introduce themselves with the politeness of office workers on the first day of a new job. Not Sarah Johns. Her debut, "Big Love in a Small Town," is populated with gutsy females who make a strong impression. In "The One in the Middle," her protagonist delivers an obscene gesture to a betraying lover. Then, in the steamy "Touch Me," a woman tries to liven up a COMPREHENSIVE CLAY AND WHEEL THROWN POTTERY KDDS CLASSES AGE 6 - 12 Sarah Johns gives album "Big Love" long-running relationship by offering her man an invitation he's not likely to pass up. With her rural Kentucky twang and vivacious vocal tone, Johns already has drawn comparisons to Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. Like those icons, she writes her own material, and, like them, she owns more than her share of nerve and personality. Johns likes pairing an upfront attitude with bouncy, accessible musical hooks, as she does on the witty "When Do I Get To Be a Woman." But she's also an 8 weeks Tuesdays 4 - 5:30 September 18,25, Oct. 2,16,23, Nov. 6,13,20 Ages 6-12 $190 PHOTOGRAPHY FOR KIDS impressive balladeer, as on the brokenhearted "That's Just Me Getting Over You," where her soaring voice is reminiscent of Lee Ann Womack's. Country music has a rich lineage of bold women, and "Big Love in a Small Town" suggests Johns has both the gifts and the gumption to carry on that tradition. Check this out: In "He Hates Me," Johns delivers a hilarious country rocker about a woman straining to impress a guy, only to have every move hurting rather than helping her chances.
