The ordinance was proposed some time ago by private citizen Ira Sachs. His proposal was later followed up by Mayor Jack Green, who recently spent the day with state fire officials examining Park City's fire prevention and safety needs. The lire officials were apparently especially concerned about the Main Street area where fire relardcnt sprinklers and construction is lacking in most buildings. Although the proposed sprinkler ordinance is currently only in the discussion stage there is a good possibility that if adopted the ordinance will 50 Years Ago be retroactive. 'ITiis would mean that the owners of buildings, which presently do not possess thefirepreventive devices, would be required to install (hem over a period of lime. Mayor Jack Green told 'Hie Record that because installing such devices would require a substantial capital expenditure, he urges particularly all Main Street properly owners to attend the hearing to provide input on the proposal. 'Hie mayor indicated that should the sprinkler ordinance be retroactively adopted, properly owners would be given most likely several years to bring their buildings into compliance.
