Show Bountiful graduates receive scholarships Brandon Wilding and Lishellc Allen were recently awarded the U.S. Army Reserve National ScholarAthlete Award. This prestigious award is presented annually by the U.S. Army Reserve to high school students who have shown outstanding ability in both academics and athletics. Sgt. Scott Barnes presented the two Bountiful students with bronze Olympic-style scholar athlete medals at a school ceremony on May 21. The U.S. Army Reserve has presented the National ScholarAthlete Schol-arAthlete Award since 1981. Since then it has become a strong tradition tra-dition in many high schools. Each year, teachers, coaches and administrators admin-istrators from more than 12,000 high schools nationwide choose some 20,000 students as ScholarAthlete recipients. "Like the award it sponsors," said Sgt. Barnes, 4the Army Reserve Re-serve also has an impressive tradition. It is the nation's oldest federal force. More than 280,000 members serve in more than 3t000 units nationwide.' |
