Show Subway rises to top with hot and cold sub sandwiches Subway Sandwiches, Utah's largest national fast-food retailer, has experienced expe-rienced a 4 percent increase in sales in the first quarter of 1991. The Utah region is one of the top ten producing areas for Subway in the nation. This is measured by average unit volume, the average dollar value of sandwiches sold for a given period for areas with 50 or more stores. Started in Utah in 1982, Subway sells 17 types of hot and cold submarine sub-marine sandwiches on bread baked daily in its stores. The company has 53 stores in Utah, three of which were added during the first quarter of 1991 . Stores are under construction and will open soon in Kaysville, Payson, Jackson Hole and Rock Springs. "This growth is a considerable achievement for Subway, especially when you consider the eight to 12 percent decline in sales other major national fast-food franchises have experienced this year," said Reid Hunter, Subway development agent for Utah. "Our sandwiches offer a healthier alternative for the nutrition-conscious consumer," he concluded. Subway has 5,500 stores in the United States, Canada and Australia and is negotiating for expansion worldwide. The company expects to increase its number of stores to 6,000 by the end of the year. |
