Show City gives OK to presch ool granted the permit, Allen must obtain ob-tain a business license before she can begin operating the school. SEE CONDITIONAL ON A-2 By MARK EDDINGTON Staff W riter WOODS CROSS The City Planning Commission has voted to grant a conditional use permit to a city resident who wants to operate a preschool out of her home. Suzy Allen, 971 S. 1020 West, was granted a permit by the commission com-mission over the objections of several of her neighbors who feel the preschool will increase noise and traffic congestion on the cul-de-sac and pose a health and safety hazard to children attending the school. City Planner Tim Stevens said approval for the preschool is on a one-year trial basis. The home occupation oc-cupation business will then be reviewed and if there are unresolved unresolv-ed problems, the commission will consider revoking Allen's permit or imposing additional requirements to keep the school in operation. Anita Bradshaw, one of Allen's neighbors, said the commission should have taken into considera tion the lack of off-street parking before granting the permit. "She'll have 10 kids attending the school and even with carpooling there will still be a parking problem," prob-lem," she said. But Stevens said the commission did take parking into consideration and felt that parking problems would be manageable with parents carpooling their children to the school. The lack of a fence around Allen's yard to prevent children from wandering onto the street or in neighbor's yards was another concern con-cern raised by neighbors. Stevens said the commission did not require Allen to install a fence because most of the instruction would be indoors in-doors and outdoor activities would be under adult supervision. Allen wants to operate the preschool pre-school four hours a day on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. She plans to hold one session from 9:30 a.m. to 1 1:30 a.m. and an afternoon session from 1 to 3 p.m. Now that the commission has Condition CONTINUED FROM A-1 Allen plans to open the school in September. Current city ordinances require a conditional use permit and business license before residents are allowed to operate a small business from the home. |
