Show Gerber to retire from banking An active member of the LDS church, Gerber is currently serving as the Relief Society president of the Kaysville East Stake. Her hobbies include sewing, tying ty-ing quilts, reading a good mystery and spending time with her grandchildren. grand-children. In 1947 Gerber was hired as the seventh employee at Barnes Bank. She remembers the old days when the bank was located at 1 North Main (now the Allstate Insurance office.) There was one adding machine in the center of the room : KAYSVILLE A friend to many of the long-time customers at 1 Barnes Banking Company, Alice Bennett Gerber, retires at the end of December. Friends and co-workers are invited in-vited to meet with Gerber at an " open house at the bank on Dec. 28 " from 3 until 6 p.m. Gerber, the daughter of Frank P. and Elva Jane Bennett, is a life-long , resident of Kaysville. Today, each teller uses a separate cash drawer which, Gerber believes, would have been helpful in the past when the tellers' calculations calcula-tions were occasionally out of balance bal-ance at the close of the day. "With everyone working with the same cash and nothing on a computer, it was difficult to remember re-member each transaction," Gerber said. For the past 16 years, Gerber has been working at the drive-in window. She has become a trusted and familiar friend to many people. The employees at Barnes Bank state that Alice has made a great contribution to Barnes Bank and to the community as well. She will be missed by those whom she has served on a daily basis for 43 years. |
