' : . ft,.., ; ' k:-V. , I L i By TOM HARALDSEN WOODS CROSS-Bountiful and Weber will play for the championship champion-ship of the Woods Cross High Holiday Invitational this afternoon at 4:15. Both teams won exciting contests Friday night to set up the final. Nikki Hanni banked a rebound in off the glass with three seconds left to give the Lady Braves a 37-36 victory vic-tory in a game marred by fouls. Provo was whistled for 28 fouls compared to 10 for Bountiful. Still, it took Hanni 's heroics in the final seconds, when both teams had a chance to win, to assure the victory. Meanwhile, Viewmont saw its six-point lead against tournament favorite Weber evaporate in the fourth quarter, when the dormant Warrior offense suddenly came alive for 22 points enroute to a 40-30 40-30 victory. The Vikes actually fought back from a four-point deficit to take a 24-18 lead into the final quarter, but the Weber press unrattled the Vikes, and the War-r riors rolled to the win. In consolation round games played earlier, Woods Cross nudged by Cyprus 38-37 in the final seconds to advance to today's consolation con-solation title game at 2:30 against Olympus, which dropped Davis 49- 42 in the other consolation matchup. mat-chup. Only four Bountiful players scored in the Braves' victory, as Hanni tallied 20 points, Allison Drown had eight, Kim Reimann five and Camille DuPaix four. Sophomore Jenny Gardner suffered an injury to her jaw in the third period and left the game, and her presence on defense was missed. The Braves outscored Provo 1 1-6 in the third quarter to take the lead, then held on for the exciting finish. Viewmont scored just six points in the fourth period in its loss, as the Weber press forced several Viking turnovers, Mandy Miller and Jennifer Jen-nifer Jones scored eight and seven points respectively. Woods Cross' victory came after junior Alisa Smith hit the front end of a one-and-one with eight seconds left to give the Wildcats the win. Cyprus failed to get a final shot off as the game ended. Amy Turman was leading scorer with 12 points, while Maureen Newland chipped in eight. Davis was led by Jodi Wimmer with nine points and Rebecca Heusser with eight. Davis plays Cyprus today at 1 1 , Viewmont and Provo meet at 12:45, Woods Cross meets Olympus at 2:30, followed by the finals at 4:15. SEE TOURNEY PG. Chauny Morgan scored eight points and Rebecca Heusser five for the Darts. BOUNTIFUL 46 OLYMPUS 29 The Lady Braves won their tourney opener behind the strong inside play of senior Nikki Hanni, who tallied 13 points, and senior Allyson Drown, who chipped in 1 1. Bountiful was in command much of the way. VIEWMONT 44 CYPRUS 14 Ralph Ashby's Lady Vikings had little trouble with Cyprus, a team depleted from last year by graduation gradua-tion and the opening of Hunter High. Angie Hansen scored nine, Mandy Miller eight and Jennifer Jones seven for the Vikes. WEBER 52 WOODS CROSS 32 The tournament favorites thumped the tournament hosts in Thursday's late game, despite 12 points by Amy Turin an for the Lady Wildcats.
