Show Ampad Corporation w receives two awards By PAUL CHALLIS NORTH SALT LAKE Ampad Corporation, a local manufacturer of office products, has been recognized recog-nized by its parent company, Mead Corporation, for outstanding safety performance in 1989. The plant, located at 75 East Pacific Avenue, North Salt Lake, earned two safety and health achievement awards in 1989. The plant earned the President's Safety and Health Achievement Award in recognition of working one year without experiencing an occupational occupa-tional ly related injury or illness that resulted in time lost away from work. Making the presentations of the awards were Neal Leonard, Mead Corporate headquarters Safety and Worker Compensation manager, r and LeRoy Michaelis, division Safety and Worker Compensation manager, both from Dayton, Ohio. 'It is very unusual for one plant to win two of three major awards from the corporate headquarter,' Leonard said. Ampad also earned the George H. Mead Safety and Health Scholarship Schol-arship Award, the most prestigious safety award given on an annual basis, according to Leonard. A $2,000 scholarship was awarded to Mead facilities that achieves the lowest lost workday incident rate (LWDIR) in each of four categories based on the hours worked. In 1989, the North Salt Lake plant attained the lowest lost workday work-day incidence rate for all Mead Corporation facilities that worked 200,000 to 500,000 hours. The LWDIR is tracked by the Occupational Occupa-tional Safety and Health Administration Ad-ministration and represents the number of occupational injuries andor illnesses per 200,000 hours worked that result in either time lost away from work or return to work with restrictions. The awards were presented to Dean G. Petrulas, plant manager, at a ceremony conducted at the plant on Nov. 2, with many employees on hand for the presentation. |
