Show It's tourney time for state's 3A girls By DIRK FACER Sports Editor Take a card, any card. It's state tournament time for the 3A girls, as basketball teams throughout the region put the lid on regular season play Thursday. Entering the final day of the league campaign, both Bountiful and Woods Cross appeared likely to join the field at Murray High School next week (Feb. 24-29). After securing the No. 2 seed in Region Six, Bountiful opens state tournament play on Tuesday at 4: 10 p.m. against Dixie. The Lady Fly en were 6-4 in Region Eight and finished fin-ished in a tie for second with Cedar City. Assuming Bountiful defeats West Thursday, the Lady Braves will enter state play with an 11-3 region mark. Woods Cross, on the other hand, faces a much more complex scenario. The Lady 'Cats are engaged in a three-way battle with Jordan and Murray for seeds 3-5. Judge (6-7), which faced region champion Tooele on Thursday, would figure into the scene with a win over the Buffs (13-0). However, such a scenario remains highly unlikely. WX secures a spot if Judge loses or if the 'Cats win Thursday. Pending a league tiebreaker, Woods Cross will take one of the following routes at the state tourney. If WX finishes third: The Lady 'Cats would meet Cedar City on Monday at 6:30 p.m. If WX finishes fourth: The Lady 'Cats would face Logan on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. If WX finishes fifth: The Lady 'Cats would face Pine View on Tuesday at 8: 10 p.m. |
